I’m working on developing tuned filament profiles for the X2D, and the machine keeps fighting me. Wondered if someone can help. It seems to want to calibrate flow ratio even though I turned it off.
I even commented out the G-code in the machine start code and power cycled the machine to no avail. Is it possible that it’s got those values stored somewhere?
To give you an example, Bambu’s X2D profile for PLA basic has a 0.98 flow ratio. Viewed under a microscope, that flow ratio is slightly over-extruded, and should only require 0.5-1% less flow to achieve perfection (e.g. 0.970-0.975).
However, I spent the weekend trying 0.975, 0.955, 0.935, 0.905, and even 0.850 and the printer always seemed to compensate for my commanded flow ratio. Ultimately, I wound up at 0.905 FR which provides the desired result, but there’s NO way this is the correct value–it must be getting multiplied by something somewhere else.
If anyone can help me reset or circumvent auto-calibration I’d appreciate it!
I can see a difference going up in flow, 1.01 for example for translucent filament so I do not think is replaced in this case, can you find out based on the output gcode? or you say the printer itself is not following the gcode?
I’m not aware of any Bambu printer that can automatically evaluate or adjust the flow ratio. AFAIK, the flow ratio is stored only in the filament profile. Quality→ Advanced settings let you modify the ratios for specific areas (top surfaces, bridges, etc.), but those default to the profile ratio. Ironing increases flow by 10%.
I also don’t know of any way to turn the flow ratio “off”, so this is confusing. Does that refer to the switch for Flow Dynamics Calibration in the Send print job dialog? That only evaluates and adjusts pressure advance (aka K factor or PA), not flow ratio.
Maybe we would have more suggestions if you explained how you are choosing and entering your ratios?
If you are using the flow ratio calibrations built into Studio, be sure to select File→ New Project before and after each test. The calibrations use non-standard settings that must be reset.
