Anyone ever get mislabled filament?

Speaking about trials with PETG Transparent threads I’ve seen recently…

I purchased a bunch of SUNLU Elite PETG Transparent, and was happily printing some storage units roll after roll, then all of a sudden my H2D went ape printing it - curled edges, almost looked like trapped foam, broke easy, etc. so I was like “Oh lovely. Wet filament.” so I dried it for 12 hours at 65 - same thing. Curling, cloudy and stringy. Then I thought, “okay, obviously a bad roll” but something didn’t sit right. Literally every other roll in the batch was fine except this ONE roll.

Come to find on a hunch after trying temp towers, flow rates, etc., I wondered “maybe they just simply mislabeled the roll, and it’s really ABS Translarent, not PETG.” since ABS has a pretty close temp profile. Worth a shot. I can always blast heat my nozzle and cold-pull with cleaning filament if things get ugly, right?

So I flipped to a generic ABS profile, let the chamber seal up, heat up, and then printed a larger three-point string test - almost flawless. Solid bed adhesion, and barely a single angel-hair wisp at the very tippy top point of the towers.

Either it’s ABS, or I managed to get the one funky roll that came off the line when they might have run out of some of the ingredients or their “mix-master” took a coffee break when making that roll.

Actually if I had some acetone handy, I should have wiped it with that. But alas, I have none. Need to get me a bottle lol

Hmm… this is intriguing. I can’t say this has ever happened to me, because I don’t buy tons of filament in bulk. Though I could imagine it happens, considering how many people want filament, and how much they have to make, pack, ship, etc.

I had a roll of black sunlu petg (bought because Bambu petg was out of stock) that would shrink and had bed adhesion issues. I didn’t think at the time it could be something else so I just threw it away. I was blaming it on everything, including Bambu sabotaging me. Now I almost exclusively use Bambu filament once dried the default profiles work pretty good and I don’t have issues with it.

I got a spool of Bambu refil that was not what was on the box (abs not pla), the sticker was correct inside the bag. It took me a few because I had several rolls I was opening but sure enough it was not the right spool inside. It was black so the color wasnt obvious.

if it was abs you would notice the smell, even on the h2d

I have had rolls where the RFID tag did not match the actual filament. It was what I ordered and the box label was correct.

Then it was a super-inconsistent batch from a chemistry perspective. Printed perfectly with ABS profile, and was nothing but ■■■■ when using anything like the other SUNLU PETG profiles. Just very weird.
