In my quest to get rid of the gaps and holes in the top layers I found Arachne was the biggest fix. I tried upping top layer flow, changing to monotonic instead of Monotonic Line, increasing infill/ wall overlap. I’ve found the best results for me was simply Arachne.
I remember when Arachne first came out and everyone thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. It didn’t take long before its shortcomings were discovered. I know its not for every print, but I would still like to know…
Who uses Arachne vs Classic and if so, when do you not use it?

I use Arachne for these reasons:
- better dimensional accuracy
- better extrusion consistency with thin wall parts (e.g., gridfinity containers), it avoids “gap infills” which is often inconsistent as these could be some very tricky to print line segments.
- faster printing, because instead of going “Wall A, Wall B, Gap Infill”, it now only extrudes thicker walls to remove that gap infill, saving some time.
- better at keeping smaller features
However Arachne can generate very weird walls/seams as well, which needs careful inspection after slicing.

I myself use Classic as the default because most of my models are functional things.
