Are My Models Really THAT Ugly? Zero Downloads - Feedback Please!

Hey everyone on MakerWorld!

I hope you’re all having a great day tinkering with your awesome projects. I’m not new here and I’ve uploaded a few designs over the past couple of weeks, but they’ve been sitting at zero downloads. Zero! It’s got me wondering – are my projects really that bad, or am I missing something obvious in how I’m presenting them?

To be totally upfront, I’ve used AI tools for some parts of the design process – like generating initial ideas or refining descriptions – but the core concepts and final tweaks are all mine. I know AI can be a hot topic, so maybe that’s turning people off? Or perhaps my thumbnails suck, or the files aren’t optimized? I’d love some honest feedback from the community!

If you’ve got a minute, check out my profile ( Leles maker space | Home - MakerWorld ) and let me know what you think. Any tips on improving visibility or making my designs more appealing would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance – let’s make this place even more collaborative!

Cheers, Lele

…are you in base 10 (i.e., our commonly used decimal system) when you count all the way to

…because I see 5.4k downloads for your models.

What do you mean? You’ve got OK numbers IMHO. Your most recent models don’t have loads of downloads because… Well… On greek themed contest people uploaded tons of stuff and maybe yours just didn’t hit the right time/popularity? Your most popular model has almost 1k downloads!

But why not ask AI for some feedback. You said you used AI for…

…ask it about your designs. Here’s your last 20 design in an easy to use screenshot. The one in the bottom right is from May 29, so a lot less recent than…

My natural intelligence (NI) tells me that there’s but a single model that has…

…no matter AI or NI, where exactly is your zero scenario that your post is about? I really don’t see it. It’s still the summer, things are a bit slow in terms of downloads. The Greek Mythology Contest is not exactly at a moderate number of models, so visibility will be pretty low amongst the 762 entries currently in the contest.

Wonder what AI has to say about the 71 boosts shared between the two Huntr/x models in the middle. Seeing how those are simple 2D pull-ups. In the grand scheme, doesn’t that make up for things as far as the more recent models?

5.4k downlad in 1 year and near 100 models..

yep offcourse i refer to the greek models… but in near 100 models, I don’t have a lot of download… lot of people have 5k download on a single model (and more)

Shouldn’t your question then be… how come I don’t have 5k downloads? Instead of why is there 0 downloads? Two different questions, I’d say.

Yeah, I ask to IA, and also sent some profile that had only 2 or 3 models and 10k download each… (really simple model like eggs holder…), but no solution

The point was tat, before the holiday my profile is start working… but after the holyday it was like a stop… the book holder, was one of the first model on the contest, so i hoped at least 10 download…

For this reason I ask if they are so bad.
Maybe I need to change the target…

The demon hunter stuff was a surprise, but my lucky was the timing, because i was one of the first to do they…

…or maybe not so “lucky”. I’m sure you are aware of the changes MW has made to the boosts and that they want complex models to be boosted. Maybe all these boosts on 2D models that wouldn’t be allowed into the “Exclusive” category is now working against you because your profile is given less visibility as a result.

But that just a (conspiracy) theory, we all here don’t know what their new algorithm is as far as boost tokens. Maybe it just comes down to the Greek Mythology contest being flooded with models. I mean, here my entries for that contest and their downloads are anywhere from 0 to 4…

i’m making more attention on selecting exclusive models, to avoid any kind of problem  or violation.
Maybe I’ll be more lucky with the next model.
But I really don’t understand why some “really simple” model, with thousand of copy, have 1k download at day…

Well, MakerWorld doesn’t either. You can find the answer here in the forum. Manipulation.

They keep screwing with the algorithm and end up hurting legit models that don’t need a high degree of design to fit their purpose. So we (cause I simple like) who have something like figure stands or use the simplest possible design get punched in the nuts. Even a small snail like me could average a card or two a month before. Now it takes 2-3 months. Oh well.

I have a model on Makerworld and Etsy that everyone seems to hate lol. As long as you enjoyed creating and posting it, that’s all that matters to me.

If you are trying to sustain a business, that’s a different story.

BTW, I think you have fantastic models, if you created those yourself, well done.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m just not interested in any of the things you posted. You may just need to keep at it and increase the range of things that you are designing to increase appeal.

That said, I’ve got nothing posted because I am certain that all of my designs are that ugly. my designs are all very narrow use case functional parts that I just don’t see being interesting for other folks. You are already ahead of me as I haven’t even posted.

there is nothing wrong with your profile, i can see you have nice stuff in general.

see here is the thing that you have to put in mind, especially after the recent changes that happened in makerworld.
1st - your type of designs are mainly aimed toward the Search / demand for example, the earrings will be if someone was looking for earing they search for earring, and then it depends on the user if he likes your design among the others then the user will download yours. (this is the case with big percentage of the uploads not only you)

2nd - after the recent changes (cyber brick and the crowdfunding and the other platform update about complicated designs being upscaled) the big league started playing heavy in the website, and attracted a lot of professional designers to post here, which everything now is focused on complicated and well engineered models, and makeworld gave the spotlight to them because you know more traffic more users more machines to sell and massive publicity.
and everything else get the crumbs in other words ( buried in the search / demand pit).

there is a lot of other factors of having a proper exposure and downloads, but i doubt they can be that effective after those recent changes.

some might disagree, but after the july 16th update, my profile went from passive +500 views per day to 250 views in weekends, less downloads less prints than it used to be. (and no i do not upload simple 5 minutes designs)

i don’t blame makerworld, but this is the trajectory they were aiming for since the start, and with their accurate machines they changed the 3d printing world from (oh what is wrong with my machine) to (focus more on designing complicated designs because you are sure that the printer will handle the rest).

so don’t lose hope and keep creating and uploading what you love and what you think is really beautiful, you only have to adapt with the current time and the future changes.

wishing you best of luck ^^

Makerworld definitely has changed something on the backend that is throttling the downloads and prints count.

This model here has zero downloads and prints - but it has been rated 5 stars. This was not the first model or even the most recent one that it has happened to, but its still showing zero in both, where as some of the others show a download or print now so they are harder to point to the problem

The clickbait is going crazy here…

Print profile rating without print or downloads… nice.

Hasn’t happened to me yet. All I had was a print without a download on one of mine. Maybe they’ve put too much quantum mechanics into their new algorithm
