ASA filament

OK I know I am opening Pandora’s box, but here goes. What ASA filament works well with H2D. I am wanting to buy some off amazon during prime days?

Only tried one brand so far, and it didn’t work well. However, I’ve had great success with Polymaker in general. They have a 35% off sale going on now.

Personally I’ve been sticking with ABS, since it has been working for me, but if I wanted ASA, I’d go with them.

Both bambu and polymaker are good brand for ASA. I personally prefer bambu ABS-GF as it warps less and a bit stronger than ASA. The GF also hides the layer lines well.

I’ve printed many kilos of Bambu Lab ASA. My reason for choosing ASA is its superior performance in environments where UV exposure is a factor.

I have had good experience with sunlu’s filament. Standard generic setting and first layer 0.1mm. However, they only have 900 gram in the roll. But you can reuse the rolls. Are also very well rolled up.

Sometimes Amazon has them for 17 euros instead of 20-27, but I wouldn’t buy them at the expensive price.

I would completely advise against Anycubic filament. Printing is fine, but the smell is abnormal, despite three additional filter mods in/on h2d.

Any idea on how to prevent stringy prints? It’s a large box (12" x 6") and it only occurs on the inside. I’m using Bambu’s settings for their ASA. You got any settings you have messed with?

Ive had great luck with Qidi ASA No chamber heat with Nano adhesive using Bambu ASA specs

I’m using stock settings for layer heights, but with a higher first layer temperature and 110 °C on the build plate.

If you share the model, I can run a test print for you.

I use Bambu’s ASA with zero issues.

I used 5 different brands of ASA on the H2D so far. No issues what so ever. Polymaker is what i print right now, and yes it’s good too. Extrudr, bambu lab, masterspool and Sunlu too.

Problem: I cannot achieve stable dimensional accuracy. I need to print a 21 × 27 cm enclosure with a thin flat bottom, but all parts deform after a day.

Model behavior:

  1. During printing — perfectly flat.
  2. Slow cooling inside the printer for 5–10 hours — flat.
  3. Immediately after removal — still flat.
    4. After 20–30 hours (sometimes 1–2 weeks) — 1–2 mm deformation. :disappointed_relieved:
  • Sometimes one corner lifts.
  • Sometimes the center bends upward.
  • Sometimes all corners rise.

What I have tried:

  • Drying the filament.
  • Increasing thickness.
  • Changing geometry.
  • Adding stiffening ribs.
  • Altering orientation.

I think my problem is not about simple uniform shrinkage. If it were thermal shrinkage, the deformation would occur during cooling right after printing. The fact that the part remains flat immediately after printing but warps 24 hours later proves this is stress-induced delayed deformation, which requires completely different solutions than dimensional compensation settings.

The shrinkage compensation feature scales the model uniformly but cannot counteract mechanical stress that builds up over time and causes non-uniform warping in specific patterns (center and edges lifting).

Looks more like internal residual stress in the ASA material, NOT classic thermal shrinkage during cooling.

Seems like what you’re experiencing is maybe deformation under load, the other thing that sometimes is not mentioned, while the ASA you’ve used was quite ok and dry when printed it might have absorbed moisture after you’ve printed it.

there’s a youtube channel “My Tech Fun” where a host test multiple filaments against numerous tests, and one of the steps that he does in this process is leaving printed filament samples for 1-2 weeks so as to eliminate higroscopic absorbtion from skeewing the results.

for example PA6 (nylon) is known for that, after week or so it will absorb up to 2% of it’s mass of moisture. and its dimensions will change.

since what you describe looks like the bottom bulging (i presume in outward direction), it might have something to do with ASA trying to expand but being restricted by the walls. If walls have less material that your bottom then it might be the case.

to check you can simply try to print a rectangle with thickness similar to your bottom (also similar dimensions, preferable longer one 27cm x 2cm), check it’s length (of course let it cool so it shrinks as expected), leave it for 1-2 weeks, then check again if it expands then thats it, if not then its definitelly not that

Bambu ASA is the worst ASA I’ve ever seen. Just pure and utter trash.

Their ABS-GF on the other hand is good.

I’m not aware on any ASA compatibility issues with H2D… it all comes down to calibration and print settings.
Whatever you buy, just don’t buy some random singpuingxui noname filament. Use known reliable vendors.
