Just saw this model, which already is on the first page, has 50 boosts received.
I have nothing with the designer, but I’m just curious, do you guys think this is a fair/ethical approach ?
This is trading with boosts. I have no idea if that’s allowed. @Tanklet?
I would think that no matter how the rules are set up, the boosts are not meant to be traded. This could be the result here:
10. If our moderators detect account behavior related to getting points or Boosts inappropriately, the accounts will be flagged and repeated offenses can lead to a temporary or permanent MakerWorld account ban.
Note: this “unlocking” of content for boosts will lead to the creation of new rules on Makerworld, specifically anyone who does this in the future:
-
the model is a trial model, it is not printable as intended or has intentional limitations (this could also fall under the guidelines: misleading content)
-
Downloads without registration on Makerworld and ownership of a printer will make it difficult to obtain and award boosts. The possibility to download normal models without registration will be bypassed. You will only receive a restricted model.
The admissibility should be clarified without fail:
-
it is a way for many users to also get something in return for their model.
-
if this behaviour is not permitted, the worst that could happen is that your account will be blocked, or at least flagged (which is probably never a good idea as flagging can be used to filter content).
Best regards!
I don’t see this as unfair but I admit it a bit edgy. I don’t think this how the boost system was intended to work.
But .f3d file for a boost is a good deal IMO XD
And I don’t understand what’s the"useful keywords lists"
I can’t recall the exact thread, but I believe incentivizing people to download your model by offering them something in return is generally considered inappropriate behavior (I think this was stated officially by BL). I would assume the same applies to boosts as well.
There could also be legal implications, as boosts are typically viewed as donations. However, providing a service or product in exchange for money clearly constitutes a commercial transaction.
From a business perspective, I wouldn’t be overly critical of this approach, given that boosts are already an expense for BL, regardless of how they are distributed. However, the potential legal implications might be sufficient reason to prohibit this behavior.
I would hope Bambu squashes boosts as payment for unlocked models or other perks you don’t get with a download.
If this ends up being allowed it will possibly spread quickly and would color the utility of MakerWorld as a way to give people who don’t/can’t design widgets things to do with their printers.
It would also pinch off the giving of boosts to others since people would need them to be able to print the designs that are held hostage for boosts.
Hopefully this gets ruled as manipulation and against the rules.
What is worse is that one would need to go print another model, possibly from another designer to acquire the boost token to give to this person to “unlock” the list that they have provided. I think this is a violation of the site rules and if it’s not, it should be, for sure.
I’d imagine this would fall under the ToS. Doesn’t specifically talk about boost points, but I don’t think this type of behavior meets the intent of Makerworld.
We have reasonable grounds to believe that you have caused or encouraged inaccurate measurements of genuine user engagement with the Services, such as by paying people or providing incentives to increase a user content’s views, likes, ratings, or to increase subscribers, downloads, otherwise manipulate metrics in any manner;
There is a chance im missing something here but on the surface, this reads like
“It’s 100% free as long as you pay me with boosts”
I hope it gets squashed.
yes … this is how I saw this also. Thought, maybe I’m too sensitive
I saw this same model earlier and share similar thoughts. Overall I think it’s a slippery slope and Bambu should comment if this is allowed or not. My main concern is that they are circumventing the download/print profile system. If you follow the instructions in that image, they will send you to a 3rd party site (away from makerworld) to download the .f3d and non-watermarked stl. I imagine Bambu would prefer users to stay within their platform and not sent to download links they can’t control.
Could you tell us what’s your official take on this matter? Thanks
I have seen custom Name plates with send me a book and I’ll do your name, if that is not trading I don’t know what is
Oh no. Please MW, ban this behavior fastly or everyone will do the same…
Would simply be boost farming which would be against ToS.
It’s not sketchy, it’s pure BS. What he’s saying is my model can’t earn boosts on it’s own so I need to give you more to get what I should be able to earn.
It is trading. Needs to be removed and banned.
meanwhile … this “strategy” works pretty good:
Can you post the model link?
Or just be some tiktok star and have your model go “viral” in an afternoon and get boosts from shell accounts.
Bet that triggered some reports.
I know I did.
Me two.
I have reported several models and the user specifically.
