Avoiding the work while changing filament

Is there an option or setting in Bambu Studio that makes the hot end avoid the workpiece while changing filament?
On a recent project, during every filament change, the hot end went to the outer perimeter of the build plate to get to the poop chute/changing coordinates. This avoided all of the project, which I thought was brilliant.
On the next project I ran, just yesterday, with every filament change, it would drag the excess that oozes out right over parts of the project! I had to basically baby sit the printer, using tweezers to, board game “Operation” style, pick off what was left on the project, until it was done with the changes - thankfully there weren’t many filament changes.

Is it a subprogram in the code?
Is it an option I can select?
I really hope someone has this answer because it should be default.

Thanks!

It honestly just happens, you can try to change the code, but you could mess up the printer. Did it drag just a small piece, or did it pull the purge out of the chute and onto the model?

It was dragging what oozes out when it’s done with the current color and goes to change. Every change.
Sometimes it was an easily grabbed, dried little stick, like ¾" long. Most times it was a ½" stick with a hair trailing across the rest of the parts.
This usually only happens, to this extent, with PETG. PLA doesn’t ooze out as bad.
Maybe I should look into the retract feature for PETG… Where it retracts the filament a bit so it doesn’t ooze out as much…

If you haven’t done so, you might want to look at the stock nozzle wiper being an issue Lots of improved nozzle wiper models out there. Some good, some not so much.

That sounds like the best bet for you! Glad I could help!

You could try turning on the “Avoid Crossing Wall” quality slicer setting.
