Aye Carumba!

Hi Guys, so I attempted to follow the very “simple” task of cleaning and lubricating the tool head, as I have over 400 hours in. I followed the wiki for removing the filament guide by removing the three screws. Right off the bat I knew something was not right when the right filament cutter didn’t move as freely as the left one did.

I found it impossible to pull the guide, out. After watching someone on Youtube with the same problem, she removed the cutter handles in real time, and then said the guide came out with just a little wiggle. Again, real time on a 30 second video. I still cannot get it out! In the process, however, after removing the cutter handles, both of the springs fell out and I can’t find any source that explains how they go back together.

Yes, Wiki says they’re different, and to note which is which. It says nothing about the springs, which I did not expect to fall out. From what I’ve gathered, the longer handle goes on the left. Which spring goes with it? Also, why can I not get the guide out? I’m afraid of using too much force and snapping something.

Any help would be great! Thanks.

You need this to make it really easy

Appreciate that, but it’s not going to help get the filament guide out, only to put it back. I was able to reassemble everything, but had to skip pulling it out.

It’s a bit tricky to remove the first time, there is a gif in the wiki that shows the movement.

Actually, probably best to go through the whole guide to make sure you have all the necessary fasteners out first.

I remember being worried that i was going to break it the whole time, just wiggling it and pulling the bottom and it popped loose eventually for me.

Yes it does help both ways as it keeps the spring loaded tab upwards that interferes with the removal and the installation if left free standing down.

Yeah, I did view that, first. Once everything fell apart, I went back through it. I noticed in one of the pictures it showed one prong of the spring on the right. I was able to deduce the rest of the reassembly from that (if that helps others in the future).

I never did get the filament guide out, though. I don’t even recall what it was that I was supposed to clean and oil, but it didn’t get done. I recalibrated with the vision plate and it’s been running nonstop, about 18 hours now, since. The prints are coming out crisp and without issue, so at least I know I got it back together correctly. It’ll go quicker next time, and I may even get the guide out, too! Maybe I’ll just order a replacement ahead of time, just in case.

Is this a piece of white filament in the right gear? If so, that piece of filament may have been holding the part in place.
