I am getting used to my new X1C and I installed Bambu Handy on my iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately neither devices streams video. It seems they need a QR code. Can someone advise me please about how I get the streaming to work on the two apple devices? I am logged in via the cloud service
What do you mean by streaming?
If your app is connected to the printer, when you open the app and select the device tab, you have access to the live camera:
Or do you want to stream the printing process to others?
The only QR code I can recall is the one that connects the app to the printer. Can you access your printer through the handy app?
To access the QR code in the X1C display, you must log out from your account (at the X1C). Afterwards, the display will show the QR code you are looking for.
When I post a request for assistance on forums of this nature, it’s because the problem is real. I am not imagining that my iPhone and iPad cannot receive video output from Bambu Handy, I really cannot see video streamed from Handy to my devices.
I am not saying your iOS devices are the cause, nor that the problem isn’t real. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
Based on your description, the problem can relate to many things. My questions below aim to help with the identification and provide you with a solution.
When you open the Bambu Handy App, can you see a menu similar to:
If so, you are connected to the printer. Please try to press the play button and let me know if it doesn’t work.
If not, you need to pair the printer to the app. To pair using the QR code, you first need to log out of your account using the printer display (I am unaware of any other method). After logging out, you will see the QR code in the X1C display and can bind the printer to the app.
Alternatively, if your devices are in the same LAN as the printer, you can search the printer by selecting the “Nearby devices” tab on the right side of the “Scan QR code” tab.
Now you confused me… in the laptop? Are you using the handy in the laptop? Which OS?
Can’t you see a QR code if you log out of the printer? If not, what is it shown?
Same here, brand new X1C this past weekend. Video works on Mac, but neither time lapse or live video work in Handy app. Other reports would indicate this is a common problem with no reliable solution. So far it’s my only disappointment with the printer. It has produced flawless PLA prints, and an excellent PETG (Matterhackers Ryno) test cube. The printer is not without flaws, but it’s a level up from my old modded Ender 3. I don’t think I’ll own another bed slinger. I hope Bambu continues to innovate and support their products in a sustainable way.
I’ve got both X1 and A1Mini streams on the handy app with my iPhone and iPad, the function has improved a lot lately. @JayZay basically has covered the method, I don’t think there was any special setting I needed to activate. You do need an SD card in the X1 if I remember correctly.
My SD card is storing time lapse. Makes no difference to getting video on iPhone. It could well be that people (including me) are having issues because they have a router that blocks something that Handy requires. If the Bambu cloud is China based they are just asking to get blocked by many security products. They need to colocate a server or servers in other locations. And if the fears over China are well founded as far as personal data theft, etc., maybe blocking is the best thing to do. Same reason people are afraid of the Bambu cloud being involved in their printing. It’s not verified safe by a trusted third party. I’m involved in Internet security.
Network permission can indeed be the cause.
My network relies on an OpenWrt router configured for privacy and security, with all info being masked by a VPN. I have noticed some limitations, such as being unable to connect to web banking services. Nevertheless, I never had an issue with BL apps.
These issues seem to be related to permissions, either on iOS or network devices. The custom configuration and options in network devices make it difficult to provide a standard solution; on the contrary, iOS Handy App permissions are only a few, and most are binary, so it is pretty easy to test.
The X series you don’t need to have a SD card to stream but the P might. Honestly I’ve never taken the SD card out of my P series machine so I don’t know if it makes any difference.
I’m not an IT security expert, so I don’t know if my setup is all that relevant, but anyway here’s what I have done.
My router is a Ubiquity Unifi Dream Machine (UDM) on which I have set up an IoT network on a VLAN. It’s named “Untrusted” and all external connectivity goes through IoT, eg TP-Link and Lifx smart globes and plugs, Amazon and Apple smart speakers, and Bambu Studio.
Up to this point my main network and the IoT network can talk to each other but the next step is to put in place firewall rules where the main network can see and communicate with IoT, but IoT can’t communicate with the main network. Someone can sit in their car outside my house and hack into a smart speaker or light but they won’t be able to get to my main network. Bambu Studio is on Untrusted IoT network. Setting up a network in this way is considered the minimum way to protect a network. Unifi also allows me to block transmissions from specific countries, ie North Korea, Russia, China, and a couple of African countries
I have the dream machine as well. I am involved in network security, but other guys on the team are the network pros. This is my home office and the guys hate ubiquiti so I get very little help Despite having bought me the router. I find the dream machine to be one of the only ubiquiti routers I actually like, since it hosts its own local cloud key. Do you have video working in Handy? If so I’ll start looking into your setup on my DM. Thanks for the write up.
I had thought the printers just don’t have support for the video streams Apple iPads and iPhones have so no video for iPads or iPhones until they decide to add it.
But if that’s not true I’m very interested as the only computer I have where I can watch a print sits right next to the printer. I can just turn my head to see. I’d love to be able to check on prints from my iPad.
Finally I got it. Initially neither Apple device would display video on Bambu Handy, but with perseverance they finally displayed video. I suspect the problem was akin to caching. I uninstalled and reinstalled Handy a couple of times, and one day the iPhone worked and a day later, the iPad worked.
For the record I am now through several version updates to Bambu Handy IOS. I still have no video, and no access to SD card contents. BUT, I have full access to everything on two Android devices on the same network. So the IOS version is NOT working, but Android is. Harrumph
