Bambu Handy Feedback Needed!

Tagging @MakerWorld @SirWill to possibly get all these great sources of user feedback and ideas to the right Bambu Labs team member

Some users might not be aware and I’ve only noticed this post made by @BambuLab via Reddit (LINK TO SOURCE)

But I do remember a controversial topic awhile ago being brought up within the forums here about the want and use of “One-Step Printing”. I stated my sole opinion to the feature as not being completely wanted by experienced users so much and referred to [Teaching Tech’s] YT channel how he had taken a survey asking what his subscribers want to see in future 3D printers going forward. Back to that topic there was a lot of users here stating they loved the feature and used it quite often. Now it seems that Bambu Labs has taken to the community to find out “Why” the feature is actually not even being utilized by users on MakerWorld.

I’ve attached the link to their post (via Reddit) and will paste their post here as well for more outreach. Bambu Labs will strive the best by taking all the best feedback we can give them so if you use Bambu Handy App and send models to print directly to your printers make sure to let them know why that is!

We Need You Now!

Did you know that you can use Bambu Handy to find models from MalkerWorld and start the print from it? Have you ever tried one-step printing from the Handy App, and if so, how often do you use it?

We’ve noticed that some of our users have yet to try this feature or prefer not to initiate printing from the Handy App. We’d like to understand why and would greatly appreciate your honest feedback and suggestions to help us improve the one-step printing experience on our app Please share your thoughts in the comments below from today to 28th June!

We will choose one lucky member from those providing constructive feedback to receive a $40 Bambu Lab Gift Card!

Thought I could help within the forums @BambuLab @MakerWorld

Please add the ability to at least change some basic slicing settings. At the minimum infill type and density.

Some prints have either stock density which can be to much/time consuming/ not needed.
Others use an overlapping infill (grid for example) and PETG can catch and cause blobs.

I won’t print something from the app if I see it uses grid infill and will wait until I can get to my pc so I can change it in Bambu studio.

If this is not possible at least show the infill type used on the build plate, the same way nozzle size etc is shown.

I would agree with this. I call them personal preference settings, and I think more of those should be adjustable via the Handy App. Like some “Advanced Settings” tab. I’d add wall count in that one, and maybe # of top and bottom layers.

Hmm, turning brims on and off could be nice too, via the handy app. I include brims on a lot of my stuff to play it safe, but it would be nice to have the option to click that off at the handy app level for users that are confident in their setup.

These are great ideas! Personally I keep running into the issue of simply wanting to print select parts of the model only so I can start another printer on the same model and have it fully done by the time I get home.

Just ran into this issue, I wanted to print someone’s alligator clip/hose arm soldering mount but it’s all or nothing when I could be printing the goosenecks on #1, clamps on #2 , and base on #3

We should have the feature of being able to cancel/not print parts of a model when sending it to the printers

That would be super “Handy”

But seriously, it would be. I tend to like to break things up for reasons like that, and it’s one of the reasons I don’t use the Handy app for models with more parts.

Maybe a way to see what the slicer settings are, or a way to switch it to your own slicer preset. I wouldn’t mind that one. If I could see the plate layout and slap my own settings on there, which I like my settings, so. Haha. Although that could pose issues where supports might have been carefully setup.

Sometimes with more complex setups, I’ll use the designer’s settings. (Like where they’ve carefully setup supports and have the prints to prove it works) For the most part though I do tend to toss my own preset on a given model before printing. The biggest value I find in the print profiles is mainly having things pre-laid out.

100% Agree. I’ve been modeling supports lately and just all around thinking of how a model will best be printed as I’m going. You’d think it would be almost the same as us having our own filament presents but “Printer-presets”.

With the (Object-skip) it’s already inside handy, I’d love to think it would be a seamless transition over to the start print settings tab when selecting a model and selecting the parts you want to “skip” :upside_down_face:

I literally was scrolling and seen that model then was like “yes!, the A1’s are clear and sitting.” Then seen 4hrs and a heartthrob of parts on the mini and had the excitement get striped from me like a baby takin the last sip of milk from a bottle…

Being able to edit some settings would be great. The underlying issue is no real guidelines on best practices for setting up projects to be Handy-friendly so they can print with no adjustments.

There’s also lots of models that people were just throwing up on MakerWorld to try to grab points which may have hinky model settings though most seemed to not include profiles at all. We need to be able to check and set most of what we can in Bambu Studio.

I’d also like to see more information at a glance in Handy. I don’t use it from my phone but I do use Handy on my iPad to monitor prints while I’m home. My iPad has plenty of resolution to put everything in one place and reduce font and icon sizes. The phone layout really isn’t appropriate for a tablet. There it would be nice to see the AMS information, printer information, and be able to view printer video all on the same page instead of having to fly out pages to see the AMS, printer data, etc.

It may come down to what people use handy for. The 3D print world had issues with unattended fires and many got it beat into them that unattended printing was dangerous. I doubt I would ever use Handy for unattended printing even though I’ve not heard of any Bambu fires. But monitoring printing? Absolutely, but it’s not very friendly for that for the above reasons.

It would be nice to be able to run customizer. I wouldn’t bother trying to let user edit the code and wouldn’t even show the code tab since space is at such a premium. Also don’t try to display the viewport and the customization settings at the same time. Just a way to toggle back and forth between them. Maybe when you switch to the viewport, it will automatically do a “generate” if there have been any changes.

This is probably better done by sending out a survey to all users or a randomly selected group of users. If there isn’t a clause in the TOS that allows MW to send out such a survey, then make one for users to opt-in or opt-out.

Getting feedback from social forums tends to get only the loudest voices. Many users are not on social forums to begin with.

I agree that there’s more relevant information that needs to be shown in the Handy app in order to feel confident the print will go through without a hitch. Also, many if not most of the prints have certain tweaks to the profile, being different material, color, infill type, infill percentage, walls, top and bottom layers, plate and such.
There should be a counter or a meter of some sort of prints being identical to the profile from where they came. If only Filament Brand or color was changed, then consider identical, if Material is changed and the print came out great, then consider the profile robust against material variance, if other parameters are changed, then consider forking the profile to something else.
My ideas are not well organized, but, there needs to be a way to expand and condense all the different variatons of a print to keep the profiles tidy.

You can print select parts via Handy.

(Stolen from reddit)

You can choose how many of something you want to print and what objects as well with handy.

For more copies of the same, before you send it to printer select how many copies you want on the “copies in a plate” option, located above the bed levelling option.

To select some objects of a plate you have the “print parts” button for print profiles that have uploaded each object individually instead of grouped.

I was just about to say this, you saved me a post.

I often use this to print one of five things and get multiple copes.

I seen it only on Reddit and that’s not the best place for this post haha. I just thought people here or bambu themselves would see it and post on the largest platform which is Facebook as far as I know with the 60k group plus the other one that has 80k+

That’s copies only, if you’re printing a model that has numerous parts to make the complete model you have to print all of the pieces and cannot deselect certain ones to “skip”.

It’s exactly what the “skip object” feature is but I want it enabled when I start a print also.

The only way this would work is if the “designer” broke up the parts on multiple plates

Yes it does say if the parts have been grouped then you can’t.

All in all handy is limited at best in its current form. Needs much more access to settings to be really useful.

Today I was talking with my Brother In Law and he’s having trouble with the grid infill using PETG, being able to modify the infill type would be very useful for him, as he does use Handy quite a bit more than I do.

I’ve had moderate success with it. It really helped when I first got it as the X1C was my first 3D printer and I didn’t understand how the slicer worked. I did like that we are able to choose the custom filament presets. I would like to see the ability to change supports and brims. Also if I have the app slice it, I would like to see what settings it’s using for it.

It didn’t occur to me that people weren’t using it, but I can understand why. Most people want more control over their print settings is what I feel it’s coming down to.

I’m waiting to see what they’re able to integrate in the app. :+1:

The Handy app is way too simpliefied aka “keep it simple stupid” which I understand is because Bambu doesn’t want to only appeal to us advanced settings users which is totally understandable. However just like Studio, an advanced tab with warning messages would allow customization like much of which has been posted. Essentially we got a taste, time to make more of a mobile slicer. Phones these days are powerful computers, slicing via mobile is the way. A problem for me is having the A1 mini with a Lite, and so many of the presliced models are for specific machines which is cool and all, but keeps me from using handy all that much. I actually use it mostly for the AMS lite control of changing filaments to those non-bambu brand filaments. But in that, you have to use studio to edit any filament presets then you’ve got it able to be assigned to filament on the AMS management screen. Essentially it needs to be more in depth, much more for many of us to use it effectively. Such things as:
Let us change infill type and density, layer height, wall counts, brims, speed beyond the 4 position slider while printing, fan settings, first layer settings… yea we need to be able to tweak more settings but essentially the bottleneck I feel would be the phone slicing and how that could work for android/iphone. Phones these days have the POWER, but I understand it’s quite a large undertaking to set up the slicer app to work with all the different screen sizes, memory limitations, different processors and etc. But that also leads into being able to edit the objects on your plate. Also, Makerworld is nice and everything with what it has to offer as far as models, but seriously I beg of Bambu, let me slice an stl I found on break at work that’s not from makerworld. I realize again all of this could 100% be overwhelming for especially the new adopters or people that don’t mess with settins, but that “Advanced” tab would be a godsend for many of us. Essentially they’ve gotta make a mobile slicer if they want this app to be the best in the 3d world. The current features are just too limiting, why it’s update although new feature rich it wasn’t substantial enough to get the adoptiion rate they were hoping for. I would gladly be a beta or even alpha tester with my S23 Ultra, A1 Mini, & AMS Lite as would many of us.

To keep everyone happy though, we essentially would need a standalone but integrated slicer app to limit download size and server traffic as it’s just not always necessary and may be back-end burdensome. It’s a tall order, but so is everything 3d printing it just takes time and attention, most importantly don’t do a simplified version and then claim no one really wants to use it… that’s because most of us not using it are beyond simple settings.

I just wanna be able to slice an STL on my phone at work or just anywhere remotely, start there and expand but you can’t start too basic or no one will care or at least not the one’s this would be geared towards. My phone is more powerful than many laptops that can 100% use studio and I’m not special, adapt or die? No one’s dieing literally of course, but we want Bambu to stay fresh, new, and innovative so we can bring more people into the ecosystem without having to say “O no it can’t do that”, mobile printing being a big one.

I use this a lot, but find that often a model will be uploaded with a profile that’s not A1-mini compatible even though the model can fit on the A1 Mini’s build plate. Having a way to let it switch plates and do a rearrange would be useful

I have ran into this issue many times myself. Basically a user would need to upload a print profile for that model using said printer model to enable the ability for others.

I couldn’t really think of an easy way for BL’s to make that happen themselves without adding some way of converting a model to all said printers. It’s possible but might take a little extra on their behalf to have it implemented within Handy.

I find the same issues with nozzle sizes, I love using a 0.6mm due to decreased print times and still maintaining quality in certain models. But as far as I see it there’s really no way to change that as it would already have to be a print profile so you either upload that yourself which requires you to be at the computer or not print said model. Lots of minor changes that would make the system most functional towards advanced users and allowing for a wider variety of customizations that’s for sure.

I’m excited to see where this goes though and still hope this whole topic gains @MakerWorld & @BambuLab attention due to lots of great experienced user feedback
