Bambu Lab is about to reveal a cut down printer in a multi tool world

Bambu Lab has just announced the upcoming printer with a teaser, locked to avoid comments of likely disappointment.

https://forum.bambulab.com/t/big-reveal-is-coming-soon/190857/3

It appears to be a H2D with the benefits it brought mostly removed.

Given the Snapmaker multi tool changer has just been announced, we must all be wondering, why hasn’t Bambu Lab developed one of these.

The market leader is now playing catch up with a game plan.

The H2D was an ok printer, lots of promise, less in reality, far more bugs and breakdowns than should be expected for a company that previously prided itself their products “just work”.

The dial nozzle was cute, but not as useful as the IDEX I had years ago. I don’t like the idea of putting lasers and cutters inside a machine that requires precision that dust and fibres actively stops.

Then there were the delays, that still persist with parts and upgrades.

All this when multi tool changers are now a thing.

I will say, the Snapmaker hasn’t made it to market yet, but the brand has a track record for quality. I know, so did other companies as I highlighted above.

If they can create a four head, auto everything printer for less than the X series and BL can’t, there is a problem.

A big problem.

I know what you are thinking, at least Bambu Lab can make it up with great customer service, right. Sorry, I almost choked myself trying to type that while not dying of laughter.

It looks like we should expect a cut down H2D with an expected (by me) price tag above the X series while the market is shifting to actual tool changing, true multi material models.

My two cents.

Qidi Q2 is “single nozzle in world of toolchangers” but it has high-temp going for it. So maaaaaybe higher temp?

Snapmaker is only selling a few thousand at the low Kickstarter prices. (Up to $799 now, no longer $749 as all of the prerelease YouTubers could say at the time.) So, this is obviously a marketing spend and they may or may not be making a profit on the initial units. The MSRP, so far, is $999. $249 MSRP for the top cover to keep the chamber warm, if needed. So $1348 vs. $1249 for X1C AMS combo. Tool changer and slightly larger build volume has the advantage, but the price is not as far off as you say.

Let’s add that you’ll need an external dry box, or boxes, of some kind if you want to keep moisture from your filaments with the U1.

It would be odd if a printer, the H2S, with a larger print volume than the X1C and even larger than the H2D, cost less than the X1C.

With BambuLab having the whole AMS ecosystem built out, it is not surprising they are not clamoring to release a multi tool changer printer at this time. They can still look on at other companies not having 25 color printing and they can probably increase that to 48 or more if they think people are willing.

We don’t even know what else BambuLab has in development. How long was H2D and H2S in development? The new Snapmaker multitool isn’t even released yet, so still technically in development.

Regardless, if I need a multitool changer, I’m not waiting for BL. Competition is good for everyone.

You made one of my points for me.

They don’t make something people are going to move to.

And another.

4 multitool heads with full multi material support at the current MSRP off just $100 more.

Their latest proposition is take away the main benefit of the H2D and charge more than the values above.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoy the laziness of the BL RIFD filaments, it seems weird to enter the colour, type and more for my older filaments.

But, 4 heads are better than one, isn’t that the saying?

What’s the point of this post?

You could more or less say anyone that doesn’t have a sub $1k tool changer in the works is behind, which would then be every every company currently…

You don’t like “dust” in your machines, as though melting plastic doesn’t produce dust and strings. Clearly you don’t print any engineering materials/ABS/ASA if contamination is an issue for you. Not really sure what the cutter has to do with this as that isn’t going to produce anything flying around. The laser is definitely niche and I wouldn’t use it either but it’s there for those that want it.

The P1S has been around for 3 years now, retailing at max $899 (but almost permanently on “sale”) for the combo.

So you are upset that Bambu released a large format printer that doesn’t use stamped steel for the motion system to reduce cost.

You can go watch CNC kitchen’s video speaking to the CEO about the h2d if you want to see why they went the route they did.

Your post just reeks of snarkiness which is just weird in the context that the U1 was literally just put up on Kickstarter 2 days ago and is a genuine game changer. Hating on every other company out there that they didn’t make the U1 is genuinely hilarious.

FWIW, found this Bambu Lab H2S | MatterHackers

I don’t know if this price means anything. Given that matterhackers sells the H2D at $2,149 vs. $1,999 on bambu store, one could predict that the H2S will be around $1,850 but I doubt it will be this expensive, we’ll see.

If only someone had seen this coming, brought it up in the forum and didnt get flamed

I recall a person even saying toolchangers were old tech lol. Mwahahaha

So anyone responding to a clear bait post is flaming? Get real. I genuinely couldn’t care less what Bambu has decided to do. I have no skin in the 3d printer manufacturering game, just like everyone else here. I’m a consumer. All I care about it what is on the market that I’m interested in.

May as well go to reddit and fanboy your heart out if you enjoy trolling, baiting, flaming and responding to such.

You sound smart. That bait taste good? Im guessing, based on your response, that you were one of the flamers that pretty much said I was stupid for thinking there was going to be a wave of truly efficient multimaterial printers coming.

Thanks for flaming, baiting and trolling. Whats your reddit name? The crazy amount of liked posts youve gotten makes 100% perfect sense.

Speaking basic logic isnt baiting.
