For those too far from a hardware store to get sandpaper, too lazy to go there, or too broke to bother, here’s a macguyver hack for you.
In the above instructions, substitute Baking Soda Toothpaste for 400+ grit wet/dry sandpaper. Be generous but don’t over-do it. Use a piece of paper-towel or a microfiber or other soft cloth to buff the toothpaste in. Best practice is to spread the toothpaste over the entire plate in a layer thin enough that you can easily see through it, let it dry like that for 5-10 mins, then use your cloth to buff in small tight circles you should be able to feel the gritty-ness through 1 layer of your buffing cloth, if you don’t you don’t have enough toothpaste apply a little more, let it dry, then continue, go over the entire plate I’d say probably 4 times then rinse away the remaining toothpaste. Don’t have baking soda toothpaste? Well as long as your toothpaste doesn’t contain any other large mesh particles you should be fine to add 2:1 ratio of toothpaste and baking soda in a small dish then use that as above. It may be advisable to screen your soda first using a mesh teaball*, sieve**, flour sifter***, or silk screen to remove any large particles or clumps
Note: I would ONLY suggest using the all white Baking Soda toothpaste, the ones with blue soda crystals and/or blue gel stripe/portion in the squeeze use a much coarser mesh of baking soda than the all-white type which are much too large for what we’re trying to accomplish here.
Fun you mention cold plate, minne has started to fail too.
First 10 or so prinnts, like a good boy, followed the guide used supplied bambu glue stick and washed in warm soapy water. Got fed up with that very quickly with my new found addtion and lot of small prints - enter #2.
Got some IPA annd wiped it clean \ spread the glue a bit more evently betweenn prints, still worked great - great adhesion.
Still annoying with the amount of glue and after finish, so heard about using “Windex” and switched to that. Night and day adhesion, cleanup, post finish etc.
Fast forward 100hrs? many many prints. 250hrs now on that cold plate, is starting to loose adhesion with anything but really solid glue coverage…
Wonder if these stickers just do have like a 200-300hr usage? hope not, thats a lot of stickers lol.
It’s very likely that the surface degrades over time, and/or interacts slightly with the glue/plastic.
I’ve heard of people refreshing PEI surfaces by wiping with acetone when they eventually lose their adhesion but no idea whether it would be appropriate for the cool plate sticker.
I did and first print worked ok, but then 2nd one, in a different spot on the bed, broke away and flung off the bed at high speed Thing “dong” church bells as it hit the back tin wall.
Who knows, my Bambu Heated PEI has turned up … so yeah mostly using that., if i feel included will go back to the Cool Platre. I have the spare sticker you get included with the printer as well.
My black PEI sheet lost its grip suddenly. I washed in soap and then rubbed it with Mr Clean MagicEraser for a very short time and also gently. The sheet is working like new.
