Would be a lot of risk for a group of people who are unknown to each other to take. Better if a company that is established takes it on by not ripping us off in the first place wishful thinking
And in case all the companies are ripping people off, maybe start your own with group of friends and not rip people off? Should be good business model
Yeah when brought over in bulk, PLA is like $4-8 (not Bambu stuff), my workplace buys PLA direct from China as part of the resin order and it’s ridiculously cheap - IIRC it was like $5. But for someone to organise something like this and then distribute quickly becomes a job probably, so you charge a small convenience fee, then the tax man is interested, then a moment later - you are a reseller! (I’m just guessing - I’ve never worked in retail)
Maybe group buys will be worth it for smaller businesses but they wouldn’t want to include the general public into the mix.
It sounds reasonable. Bulk orders from Marvell3D are about the same as those from the direct Bambu store. Have you tried filaments Marvell3D sells under its own name?
Fellow disappointed kiwi here too. Ready to get a p1s/ps1ams over Christmas but just not sure if it’s a good decision now.
we will collaborate closely with them to ensure competitive pricing
Negotiating a better deal is surely a joke. Competitive with each other in NZ? Price fixing?
I get faster delivery from Amazon AU than PBTech.
Yeah the “pre-order, bulk pricing” seems perfectly fine. It’s the other vendors that made me grouchy (plus the lack of coffee I guess).
Yes I’ve tried it a number of spools Marvle3D spools over a multi-year timespan, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I note they don’t do some of the types they used to sell, possibly because it wasn’t great or maybe because eSun came closer in price with better quality (the spool winding was terrible at times with their own stuff).
If I was going “own brand, lower cost” I’d probably consider Wondershop.
THIS is complete BS. just got me a a1 and now i have to shop between 3 stores to try and find the colors i want, and if they don’t have them then what? And don’t get me started on prices.
I was procrastinating during December and when I was finally ready to order a P1S Bambu stopped shipping to NZ. I’m not willing to pay those outrageous PB Tech ransome prices, so instead I ordered a Qidi Q1 Pro from Amazon AU. Nz$926 delivered, heated chamber, 370C nozzle, 120C plate. At the same time, P1S on Amazon AU is NZ$1065 with 20% discount plus nz$120 shipping, but the import duty kills it.
Absolutely gutted about this, the local suppliers have a fraction of the filaments, often take weeks or months to deliver. Before christmas I was unable to source a hot end locally so had to use the Bambu store…
If this is just a temporary thing please say, because I am seriously reconsidering whether to stay tethered to the Bambu ecosystem or start exploring other options solely because of this change!
Yes, it doesn’t look bad. What is more concerning is sudden changes in the company’s business approach without warning or explanation. It is not a good sign.
Thanks for mentioning Wondershop, I didn’t know about the company. Have you tried their filament? I had a bad experience with ABS filament sold by 3DEA and with JamgHe PETG. Every time I tried it ended up with a completely clogged nozzle and jammed extruder.
What import duties are you talking about?
You should be only paying GST on it and it applies to everything.
Printed RRP already dropped slightly across them all and the recent sales were obviously not real.
Because it’s over $1000. Amazon AU takes extra $371.74 as import fees deposit on top of GST inc price. Try it yourself.
It’s wrong. There is 0% import duty on 3D printers. You only have to pay the Import Entry Transaction Fee (IETF) and the Biosecurity System Entry Levy (BSEL) which is about $90 max total.
By the way, it is cheaper or the same price if you buy printers from Mindkits or Marvell3D than directly from Bambu Global (exchange rates, US$ 300 delivery and GST).
I’m more worried about the future availability of Bambu spare parts and filaments.
P.S. With current exchange rates P1S would be over NZ$ 1000 even if you buy it directly from Bambu, so IETF & BSEL would apply anyway. I checked with Amazon AU, it is not showing GST, only Import Fees Deposit which probably includes GST as well. When I was buying X1C, GST was included into import duty/tax.
Rather than cut off an entire country, maybe BL could create a single shipment per week containing all the purchased items to the country in that week.
They would pay less shipping overall and simplify the process.
They could offload the local delivery to the national carrier.
Please, understand that I have zero knowledge of how the internals work within NZ.
I imagine having a weekly minimum turnaround for orders isn’t ideal, but, much less annoying than the current state of affairs.
If you think this is a good idea, share your thoughts with BL and some pressure might do some good.
Items sold by or shipped by Amazon AU already have NZ or AU GST included in the price you see and it’s not shown at the checkout (the US Amazon shows tax separately). The Import deposit is calculated on top of that (including shipping). If you click on the link which explains the deposit they use exactly that terminology: import duty. So the deposit is around 25% on top of GST or NZ$371.74 in this case. I’ve never heard that Amazon returned “unused” funds. They mention that’s a possibility, but in 26 years of me using Amazon I never had any deposit returned. Try it, put a P1S in your shopping basket and go to the checkout. Qidi Q1 pro is $920 delivered, no import deposit necessary, and it’s better for my use case (heated chamber, 120C plate).
Yeah, I had another look on Amazon AU. I have no clue how Amazon calculates the deposit but it looks wrong to me. Another thing, if you apply 20% discount P1S price is falling below $1000 but the final sum is still calculated as over 1K. It is odd.
Holy ■■■■ this really frustrates me.
I buy a bunch of engineering filament(pa6-cf, pc, etc) and none of the local resellers seem to stock any of this.
What a kick in the teeth, completely out of the blue.
Another angry X1C user here. The same deal, ordered from the global store, arrived in a week. Then went to repeat the process prior to Christmas and no dice. I agree the local pricing is exorbitant not just on filament but on spares as well. I now have a bunch of refillable reels I can’t get decent-priced filament for. I’m trying other brands, but honestly even those seem overpriced compared to the rest of the planet. I’ve got some Sunlu on the way from their AU-exclusive store sale, worked out to $21 a roll.
Reply should be - Dear Bambu labs, due to this decision we have decided to no longer purchase any Bambu products if we don’t have to - thus barring spare parts we will only be using generic equipment and filament when possible and will not purchase any Bambu labeled product.
Have a nice day.
I wonder if that would change their minds if everybody from down under responded in such a way.
