Bambu Studio Closes when using Remote Desktop

I sometimes need to access Bambu Studio via remote desktop. When I go back into the remote desktop session after a print is done and click on any of the navigation buttons at the top, the program closes. If I only access the program directly from the PC, it does not occur. This issue has occurred for over a year, for many different versions. I am currently on v2.2.0.85.

I’m not sure what the exact ask is here, but it sounds like you’re asking Bambu Lab to support a Microsoft feature that may be competing for the same network resources. This is also a use case that no slicer developer - whether Orca, Prusa, or Cura - would normally test for. In other words, you’re mostly on your own to diagnose the problem and see if a workaround exists, such as using VNC or another RDP-like remote access tool.

Here are some diagnostic suggestions I’d try if I ran into this:

  1. Check the Windows Event Viewer for the actual error code when the abnormal termination occurs. Once you have the code, search for it directly - or better yet, use the ChatGPT tech support feature to walk you through the diagnostics. This is one area where CPT can be particularly effective since technical troubleshooting was one of its original design goals.

  2. Try VNC as an alternative. Install a VNC server on the machine running Studio and configure it to use a different port than the default. If you want web access, you can run the web-based VNC option with only the server-side component, though in practice the dedicated client tends to be more reliable - especially for diagnostics.

Good luck🍀 and let the community know if you solve this, it will help others.

I’m afraid I do not have a solution to this problem, because I’ve never encountered it. I use RDP daily, but I’m no expert because I used default settings and except for fiddling with sound settings, everything has just worked.

I print with OrcaSlicer via RDP all the time with no problems. I also run Studio often via RDP with no problems, but seldom print from it.

My shop PC is an old Core2 Duo that is incredibly slow and just barely works with a minimal installation of Windows 10. It has no apps on it because I use it only as a terminal to run everything from my Win 11 Pro office computer, using the Windows RDP host and client . I’ve had no problems running any program via RDP.

I think the source of your problem will be found in your RDP setup rather than Studio. Without knowing which operating systems you are using, which RDP host and client, which settings, we certainly do not have enough information to troubleshoot the issue.
