I have a .3mf file from July last year that uses some text.
I wanted to edit this text, and the font completely changed. Would not be a big deal, if I hadn’t already printed last year with that font, and I wanted to reprint with the same font.
This is what I found:
The file was created in Bambu Studio 02.01.01.52. I just used the first font on the list, which was called Adobe Arabic. (it is a normal latin alphabet though. Very similar to Arial, but not the same).
In the new Bambu Studio, the font list was updated to more closely mirror that in Windows. That is great, but there is no Adobe Arabic. In fact, when I google this font, what I see is actual Arabic fonts, which is not what I need.
Any ideas on how to get this font back into Bambu Studio? I got it working by reinstalling that old version of Bambu Studio, but a) I don’t want to continuously have to do that, and b) that version does not support P2S, so this trick only works as long as I keep my P1S.
The initial sample text is in Arabic, but you can change that or type some in. It does have Latin characters in the font as well.
I have that font on my Win 10 system and it’s the first one that shows up in the fonts list of the slicer text tool. You may have to restart BS before it sees newly installed fonts.
If it did specifically come with an earlier version of Studio, it would have to have been distributed with the program, so another option might be to check the old version’s installation folder to see if you can find it.
Hm, something is odd. I actually have the Adobe Arabic font in Windows, and I could even find it in Bambu Studio - but that’s not the same font. I’ll reinstall the old version shortly and take some screenshots.
Yea I realized after I posted that you said it looked similar to Arial, but Arabic is serif and Arial is sans, so I don’t really see the similarity… Musta been a different font?
However, in the old version I can edit the text and it stays this font. In the new BS, it defaults to Arial and it changes what it looks like. It gets thinner.
The empty space with the checkmark? No, it’s a font search feature, which I just figured out. And in the prior shot you posted, the actual font looks like Arial to me.
So at that point I have no idea if what it is showing in the text/font settings has any relation to what was there originally.
Actually… LOL… if I hit “undo” while that text editor is open with the skewed text showing, then it goes back to being in the correct orientation again, and the text dialog stays open also, with the angle reset to zero. Then I hit undo and/or redo a couple times and the whole program crashed. Uh, sorry, that doesn’t help, but I found it amusing.
I see the text kerning issue with some characters as well, and with other fonts also. Adjusting Text Gap helps separate the “j” and “k” but the overall spacing is still off. No idea why. The layout engine seems to have some strange ideas about kerning in general (“text gap?”), even a monospace font looks off. Is it trying to fit the text onto the part surface and changing the spacing to do that?
The options are also very limited, really (compared to everything a modern font can do). I haven’t used the text tool much so far so maybe I’m missing something.
As for identifying your mystery font… that’s tough, it’s so close to Arial. I knew I guy once who could have named it on the spot, but… I could see if I can find him Did you try asking an AI like CGPT? Or maybe Google has a search feature for that?
After all this testing, I now think that it is Arial, just some weird rendering in the new Bambu Studio.
I don’t use the text feature much either. I saved a copy of the older version, and I suppose I can just install that temporarily if I need to edit any text - at least until (or if) Bambu fixes this issue.
I found the portable version, so that makes it a bit easier.
