Bambu Studio forgets which printer I select

Here is another thing I’m not understanding about Bambu Studio and filament syncing.

  1. I can go to the Device tab and open my printer. I only have one so I would think it would automatically have the printer selected but maybe it can’t?
  2. It seems if I switch to any two other tabs it forgets the printer I selected. Seems like it occasionally forgets when switching to just one other tab and most of the time when switching to two other tabs.
  3. So for instance, if I choose the printer on the Device tab, go to the Home tab and pick a model, it automatically switches to the Prepare tab and forgets the printer I selected, and then gets an error when I try to sync filament.

Surely this is not default behavior for Bambu Studio, or is there something I’m missing?

This is a recent change with Bambu Studio. The model file seems to not link with the current settings or overrides them. Hopefully it gets addressed in a future patch. Stuff like this is why I prefer not to use .3mf files. I would rather just import a stl so it doesnt clear my settings.

Thanks for the quick reply. That file was originally an STL, didn’t get it from Makerword but I guess when I saved it the first time it saved as a 3mf. I’ve been working on getting a variety of color patterns for this model, so I keep re-editing it.

Hopefully this issue is addressed soon, but it makes trouble shooting other issues easier when I can rule out what’s not part of it. Although thinking about it, this maybe part of the next issues where the AMS sometimes starts off with the wrong filament.

Why doesn’t it keep my default and only printer? - I would think it would keep my default and only printer available. I have to change this on almost every print I need to do and then reload/resync my AMS before any print.

Any update on where we are at with a fix on this? I am new to the Bambu system but this just seems broken.

Bambu kills the connection every time you switch windows.
It is a bug of the current firmware and Studio.
Also makes calibrating your filament a true nightmare…

I hope they can fix it soon as well. Welcome to the Bambu Ecosystem ranashi. It is almost a well implemented structure, but it’s moving quickly in the opposite direction.

I have found that just switching to the Home Tab causes it to loose the loaded information. So when I’m editing a model I downloaded from the Home Tab, then switch to the Device Tab and load the printer information, then switch to the Prepare tab and sync filament… If I switch back to the Home Tab to look at pictures of the model all the information for my printer and the filaments has disappeared.

So ranashi, you will find this is just one out of many hugely annoying bugs and bad implementations.

My P1S now forgets the custom filaments.
All still in the correct folder but Studio refuses to show them.
Several days of hard calibration work ruined, unable to print things and all this just because Bambu plays bully and claims we need more security for a printer than for our bank accounts.
Re-calibrated 5 filaments yesterday because Studio lost them, today I can do the same with 8 filaments.
And what do we get from the Bambu support when asking for help ?
Lies and more bogus.

Bumping. This is an issue I’ve also experienced as a recent newcomer to the 3d-printing community. I have printe a few projects without remembering to select my printer and filament-type to less-than-great results. I’m just glad that I recognized what the issue was (wrong printer and filament selected upon loading a new profile), rather than troubleshooting something else entirely.

Hey everyone. I found a solution that fixed this on my printer… Orca Slicer.

Currently the fix is in the last two beta releases but should be included in the next full release. I’m using 2.3.0 Beta2 and it has some great improvements. I highly recommend it.
