Bambu Studio Issue

Wondering if anyone is having issues with Bambu Studio not maintaining positions of objects after saving, closing and reopening file? I spent a significant amount of time arranging objects on my plate at different layer heights, just to have it all mixed up after saving and reopening program.

I was hoping to migrate some of my editing to Studio but this is a major turn off.

Thanks,
Andrew

It sounds odd to me, never had that issue. So are you saying the Z height changed or the position of objects or both?

It does sound odd ‘arranging objects at different layer heights’, you are combining objects and then changing heights correct? Otherwise you cant just leave an object / part floating as far as I understand.

Good follow up. So no, it doesn’t change its X/Y position. Only the Z (Height). As an example, an object (more specifically, a Studio generated text object) was resting on the lower object (no space) and after reopening the program, the text object was floating.

To be fair, this doesn’t happen all the time, and it seems intermitent to me.

Yeah, you just can’t do that, you have to join the floating part to a grounded part and then change its Z height.

I’m no expert here but I remember this from other threads assuming I remember correctly:

Select both parts, right click and select Merge. Now they are bound together and the part moved above the print beds Z will stay where put, otherwise it is going to want to fall down to the plate.

Objects merged under Assembly:

Of course to print properly they will have to have some touch points or something to keep the floating part in place.

So this was done. All the objects at the time were part of the same assembly.

Can you post a screengrab illustrating this concept? I ask because I am having a hard time visualizing what you mean.

Bambu Studio will not allow for “floating” object, so it would have to be part of an assembly which your post implies it is. But it would help to understand the orientation and what the object is.

I have a theory. There is one aspect of the slicer that can be peculiar. If one let’s say changes the variable layer height and then doesn’t deactivate the tool immediately but goes directly to slice. I have experienced situations where upon saving and reopening, I’ve had bizarre positioning issues with models on the build plate. I’m wondering if this is similar.

A thought just occurred to me: Although I assume you have the autosave feature enabled, what are the chances that the loss of model position is due to a save not occurring or failing to save between your last change to the model and last save?

This habit I am about to describe stems from my old Microsoft Office experiences, where I lost countless hours of productivity to failed saves. It’s now muscle memory for me to instinctively hit CTRL-S after making any edits, including slicer settings.

Another thing to note: In Windows, one often overlooked indicator is the “*” next to a document’s title, signifying unsaved changes. I’ve developed the habit of checking for it before exiting a document—again, a result of losing too many productive hours to unsaved work.
