Bed problems? - rippling on first layer

UPDATE!!! well, I feel silly. I spent all day on this only to find out, when I went to go put in a new nozzle to test, that my nozzle screws were way out! I guess I didn’t tighten them very well and they slowly moved out and out until they were super loose. Things are working again! XD l leave this post up in case anyone else happens to have a similar struggle and havey yet checked how their nozzle is seated.

I hope someone here can help! I’ve been struggling recently with what I believe is some kind of printing bed problem. At first, I thought it was a filament problem and spent hours trying to calibrate the new filament, only to give up and then tried a different filament that I’ve used many times. Unfortunately, same problem!!

On my first layers, and always on the same side, I’ve been getting these ripples in the first layer that then build up and cause issues later, like the nozzle bumping against the raised ridges.

First filament I was struggling with was a matte PLA; second is my trust elegoo rapid PETG (which is in the photo attached).

I’m using a .4 hardened steel nozzle that’s only a couple months old. I’ve tried two different plates with the same result.

Has anyone encountered the same problem? How did you fix it?
