I’m looking for a stable neon/fluorescent coloured filaments (pink, yellow, red, orange blue etc) ideally something that will be light fast / stable over a number of years as it’s going to be used for art work and I don’t really want it to fade, however, it’s going to be indoors and not in direct sunlight.
I’m hoping to get something in Matt finish and easy to print like PLA can anybody recommend what’s the best out there?
When I say I need it to be fluorescent, I’m not using be using it with UV lights for true fluorescent properties just very bright neon light colours under normal lighting conditions.
It’s a pity we’re not at the point where manufacturers are stating it’s lightfastness as they do with artist material such as paint, with paint neon colours are renowned in the Art world has not been very stable and are known to fade quite quickly as a paint. not sure how this translates into the filament world? Is there such a thing as colour fast filament that retains its colour for a long time?
I presume by neon you mean “high saturation”?. Some of the aforementioned filaments will do that, but they are not as vibrant as good art paint. Sadly I know of no solution to the neon lifespan problem, although indoors without excessive UV light from the sun, the lifespan is longer.
You might be able to do some trickery with lights and screens but they also do not last forever. When kinetic sculptures became “a thing” they were often sold with maintenance contracts. Anyway I assume as an artist you know all that anyway, I am sorry I can’t help.
edit forgot to mention flurescents, same as above. It exists but not as good as paint. Cannot comment on lifespan.
I have used Atomic Filament Neon Orange PLA with good results. It prints very well with the Generic PLA setting in Bambu Studio. Can’t speak to the longevity of the color, however.
