I have 2 AMS2 Pro units - at the moment one connected to each nozzle. My plan was to keep light colours on one side and darker colours on the other in order to try minimise wastage between colour changes.
However, I assume the software will tell me which side to place colours regardless, so I would need to juggle colours around each time?
Either way, I’ve been told its recommended to connect them both to the right nozzle, and save the left for specialised filaments, or for ‘one off’ prints in order to save from wear on the left nozzle, which has to move down/up each time its used? Is this correct, or am I fine to leave one AMS on each nozzle?
The modular nozzle management system look like it is the best solution I can see. Honestly I wish it was a bambu store available product outright that could be purchased with the machine.
I print different items, just as a hobbyist - I was just trying to reduce the need to juggle filament colours between nozzles. It seems when I slice a model the system will inform me of the most efficient way to organise the filaments, but lets say I have a 4 colour model, it will always put 3 colours onto the right and 1 colour onto the left - surely it would be more efficient to have 2 on the right and 2 one the left for quicker changes between nozzles and less wastage?
Or will it always try to max the right nozzle first?
It can’t be always be half and half. It depends where the majority color is and which colors will be switching often.
I don’t think it is reasonably possible to keep certain filaments on one side or the other. I just juggle the filaments and put them in the recommended ams on the left or right. I’m constantly moving them around on my h2d. It’s not like that on my other printers where I keep my wood pla filaments in one ams and petg in another.
Thank you - yes I feel I will be constantly moving them around too, which I wanted to avoid as it also means subjecting my desiccant boxes to air every time the lid is open too. Seems it’ll be the only way forward though.

Logically it is a sound method, but when it comes down to actual printing, having the lesser used colors on one head, and the major used color on the other is more practical in terms of filament used and time.
I wind up slicing at the bottom choice which escapes me at the moment, where I pick and choose which one to use. This way I can select which color for which head, but found that it will tell me how much is wasted in time and material, and when its significant, I will swap out spools are needed to what it tells me.
In the long run, you will eventually know which one to use that best works for each specific job. I thought the same way initially, I want these to print from this AMS and these to print from the other, like CMYK in one, and petg in the other. Didn’t work out too well.
