Best way to tell people you have updated/ improved a model

Hi All

What is the best way to let people who have previously printed your model that you have updated it ?

For example I have had feedback that one of my controller stands doesn’t quite hold the controller as well as I had thought so I have gone back re scan the controller and changed the design with updated geometry that has improved the issue.

I’m assuming all I can really do is

  • Upload the updated model
  • Add a section to the description stating it’s been improved
  • Post a community post also mentioning it.
  • Reply to a few of the comments who stated they had issues.

And that’s about it ? Anyone have a good (non spammy) way to tell people ?

Up until this very moment I thought that functionality was built in to the site… but I just realized it only notifies the people who uploaded print profiles. So I think the ways you listed are probably all we have.

Ah yes I has also miss understand that function. I guess it makes sense. As I think it could be abused a lot if it went to everyone that ever downloaded or printed your design. Ok thanks I’ll stick to those for now.

On top of the things you’ve mentioned already you can try and use every social media that people find/follow you on.

The community tab/pist is the ideal way to share the news.

Granted yours will be in between the 18 begging messages that Stan has sent as he wants a free printer.

  • Please
  • Give me money
  • I need boosts
  • I have parents, boost me
  • What printer do you have, boost me
  • I’m selling blood, boost me
  • I’ll boost you, promise, pinky swear
  • I have other bodily things to sell, boost
  • Just give me the printer
  • I have updated my popular model

You know, I’ve reported and blocked multiple accounts already and now my “community” tab is half-decent (if only it had auto translation like the rest of the site it would be even better). I wonder when the next wave of enshittification will happen.

As for community tab itself - makerworld has said that they want community to be mainly about sharing makes and updates. If they would juuuust spend some time on moderation and tweaking algo, then maaaybe it could be useful then. Who knows…

Ah good idea!, Not really linked my social to Makerworld much. Maybe this is a good reason to try do so.

Yeah I’m thinking its only the most die hard of my followers that will really see a post from me with everything else on the community tab.

Honestly, I use “following” tab for updates from people I follow. It avoids spam of “for you” page entirely  You know, we could ask authors of plugins for makerworld to default community tab to “following” so it takes us directly there

Sounds like there is the opportunity for some overlap between MakerWorld and OnlyFans.

When I was pushing for this feature, it was meant to be YOU would see those YOU follow.

It wasn’t meant to be a means to discover beggars. I imagine they thought they could create a Twitteresque solution.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if they sprinkled in some random entries into the suggested feed.

The current stream is so full anything you follow is lost.

I am not sure many realise they can filter it down as it is far less prominent.
