Yesterday I discovered by accident that you can select any filament for a print profile even if the material does not match (e.g. PLA in a print profile that displays PETG):
I did not think of trying this, because the “Match my filament” tab suggests that I have to select a roll of PETG:
There are many models out there which have a dedicated profile for each material. This suggested to me that you need to have a profile for each one. (Might make sense if the materials need different settings, but I think many of them are just the same profile with a different material selected).
For example, this model:
(note the description of this profile)
So, it seems like I am not the only one that did not know that you can use a profile with any material.
This should be improved in the UI, so that it does not create misunderstandings.
I would like this. I think people do get confused and don’t fully realize you can select any material you’d like. I get asked questions that make me consider that people feel locked in to the filaments I set the profiles up with.
It would be nice if on upload there was an option like “compatible filaments”, so the designers could select what would be suitable filaments.
Could then have an added warning, so like if there’s a clip in PETG, and the designer sets it to only be suitable for PETG/ABS, or something like that, and a user insist on doing it in PLA Matte, it wont stop them, but will inform them it’s not compatible and they do it at their own risk.
Just typed up a whole mess of a reply about locking in suitable filaments only to realize you had already covered it. Thank god you can scroll replies while typing.
