Better solution to running out of filament/end of spool

Hey there, just posting this to see if anyone else has difficulty when they run out of filament? Many times when I replace the spool it fails to load and red lights the AMS.

Also, an even bigger problem is many times the tiny bit of black tape used to hold the filament on the spool will cause havoc with the internals. A couple of times it has actually sliced open the PTFE tube on exiting the AMS and also ended up blocking my extruder which then need complete disassembly.

Any tips on these issues?
