BL PETG Basic

I just noticed that the BL Store has PETG Basic listed now.

There is also a required studio update

The all-new Bambu Lab PETG Basic has been upgraded to deliver PLA-level strength while maintaining its signature toughness. This makes it ideal for structural and functional parts that need to handle higher stress without becoming brittle.

With improved resistance to water, UV, and temperature, it remains an excellent choice for outdoor accessories, functional tools, and everyday-use models. The refined formulation also improves printability by reducing stringing and producing smoother surface finishes, so you get the benefits of PETG with fewer tradeoffs.

Bambu just sent me an Email showing off their new, super strong PETG Basic, complete with charts on how superior it is to PETG HF. I thought the “new” PETG HF was the stronger, better, more resistant filament.

Somehow PETG is now tough as nails, UV and weather resist, and PETG is weaker and not as good?

I ordered a roll to test out. Seems like this is meant to be their response to the Polymaker PETG update that came out awhile ago.

Which probably explains the shortage of PETG HF. They’ve stopped making it so they can switch over to this new stuff. I was going to order some, but I’ll be traveling and won’t be able to receive it for a couple of weeks

As long as it’s not glossy :face_vomiting:

It seems like they serve different use cases. Basic has a glossier finish and increased strength by some metrics. HF has a matte finish and prints faster

Based on the specs, it looks quite different from the old discontinued PETG Basic. This new version actually seems much stronger!

I just ordered 15 rolls, so I’ll report back once they arrive. The specs look really promising. There aren’t many colors available yet (green is missing), but it’s still an awesome start.

PETG HF, on the other hand, is basically impossible to buy. I got the notification at 5 AM that it was available, and by 7 AM it was already sold out.

One strange thing I noticed about the PETG Basic specs:

When you go directly to the PETG Basic page:

https://ca.store.bambulab.com/products/petg-basic

…the strength values look amazing.

But when you go to the PETG HF page and look at the comparison table that includes PETG Basic:

https://ca.store.bambulab.com/products/petg-hf

…the PETG Basic numbers suddenly don’t look nearly as impressive.

The spec sheet on the PETG Basic page seems correct, so I suspect the comparison table on the PETG HF page might have a typo or outdated values.

Annoying. There are a number of ranges that do not have the basic colour choices.

Don’t make me angry, you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.

Wait until you put it in your basic and then take it out when you go to checkout, that makes the experience just the extra bit special p.

I don’t think that’s the case.

  1. The colors they’ve released aren’t the same as the PETG HF colors. All of the color codes have both different material and color codes. They wouldn’t suddenly rug pull the 14 color PETG HF line and replace it with only 7 PETG Basic colors.

  2. Bambu has multiple suppliers/factories, I don’t think this is a case of stopping making one so they can make another. If anything they would be adding another line or supplier to produce basic.

  3. This filament is drastically different than PETG HF, there’s no way Bambu would release a filament that drops print speed by ~30% and not continue to sell the HF version. They’d be screwing their print farm customers so hard.

I think you’re actually close though. I expect we’ll be seeing a PETG HF reformulation soon, in the standard colors, print rate, but with increased toughness which WOULD explain the recent shortages.

Yeah…..I thought HF was the upgrade???

The first PETG Basic was notoriously difficult to achieve good prints with. Either you did, or you didn’t. There was little medium ground. It had issues. I still have some around.

HF came out and it gave great finish and is easy to print with. The profiles are great out of the box. There is a big difference from HF and the old Basic.

I wonder if it’s different now?

I “like” how there are already a bunch of “example prints” on the product page. Do they release new filament samples to influencers?

BTW, these Studio profile updates are causing startup issues for some users, be careful and have backups of your config folder.

I’m sure it is. Posts in this thread have mentioned it’s seems stronger on paper. Will have to see.

This may take the pressure off the HF version as people (including me) were buying it to get good PETG but not needing/using the HF.

Just seeing this now. Will it be any better?

I mean, the old stuff was discontinued for a reason. Why would they turn around and reintroduce the same product again?

Hello everyone! Today I got an update for Bambu Studio, and noticed that Bambu Lab is bringing back PETG Basic. What does everyone think? Good or bad?

Update, it is on their website.
