Boosts should not expire!

Boosts should not expire, simple as that!

A few times now I’ve forgotten to give them out. It’s so stupid that they expire, someone is missing out on a buck now just because I wasn’t online for a bit. :poop:

They’re valid for 28 days… did you have a digital detox months?

nah.

not because i want to simp for bambu or makerworld or whatever aka whipping out a katana while screaming “leave the <insert currency here> company alone” but because the boost system isn’t a requirement.

there isn’t a government demanding that they regulate their imaginary (and in the literal sense) internet points, it’s not like it experiences inflation or whatever. it’s just the same thing you get when you shop somewhere irl and they have a point system. like… they make the rules. they’ve always made the rules.

if they wanted to make it so that you had to use your boosts within 13.7 minutes upon recieving them while standing on one foot reciting shakespeare i wouldn’t complain because again… it’s their system. they can do whatever they want.

they’re boosts. who cares.

Only a guess, but I would imagine they expire so that people use them. They want to encourage people to use them to reward/incentivize the creators to keep creating. They also don’t care if they expire because they will just keep issuing more.

I know I’m necro-ing the heck out of this thread, but I just wanted to say that I, too, think boosts should not expire. We earned them, let us keep them for a year or something. I used four boosts, on items that I liked, and I take my sweet time using them. I had 39 boosts expire. I probably got most of those based on my X1C printer farm. The fact that I see something I really like, and want to boost it sucks - but knowing that people will literally just waste these boosts randomly also sucks. Do boosts even matter? They probably do.

Sure they matter, you’re giving someone a dollar for free. If I haven’t printed anything lately I’ll just look at models and boost something random because it looks cool or whatever because I don’t want to waste it. I’d rather boost a model I actually print but I’d also rather not let it go to waste because it will expire.

I get what you’re saying, and 29 days is definitely not a short time. But even then, life happens — you don’t log in every day, and sometimes you just forget about it. It still feels unnecessary that boosts expire at all. If someone earned or received a boost, they should be able to use it whenever they want, without a time limit. Even with 29 days, it can feel like wasted value if you miss it. Removing the expiration would just make the whole system more relaxed and user-friendly.

I’ve been saying this since Boosts started to expire. I have purchased 15 X1C Combo printers, and lost all of my earned boosts because I was too busy using the printers. It super sucks. There’s literally no benefit to make them expire, especially when they’ve been earned/granted.

Some people farm them, and maybe that’s a different use case, but when I buy something, and I am granted something? I should keep them forever.

But as it is, I’m out almost all of my boosts, and the entire Maker World just looks like an annoying cash grab advertisement to me.

28 days is an unreasonable period for anything to expire. It takes a week just for someone to figure out the initial settings on a printer, and a few weeks for the initial excitement to wear off. By the time you’re ready to even look at Maker World, your earned boosts are gone. It’s a bad feeling.

A lot of stores realized a long time ago that they should put heating and cooling elements right at the front door, when you first walk in. That initial rush of hot or cold air makes you feel like you want to come back to the store again and again.

Losing your boosts after 28 days feels like the opposite of that. Like, getting a quick punch to the face when I first walk in. Maybe I don’t go back there anymore?

I agree that it would be more convenient if boosts did not expire, I would argue that the reason they do is because they are not ours. MakerWorld “lends” them to us to give out and in turn gives the makers who receive them a value in points. If we hoard the boosts then it becomes more and more difficult for Bambu to track who is going to gain points and when. Or, at least, that is how I interpret it. Bambu wants us to give out boosts, but if we don’t want to give them out right away they want to make sure that someone else does.

I would say that is my two cents worth, but I am not sure that covers the cost of a boost token.

I’d give you a boost token for that comment but 7 of mine expired :squinting_face_with_tongue:

jk aside I’d say that was pretty accurate, it’s inventory management. If there wasn’t a real world monetary value attached to them it wouldn’t matter so much. They struggle enough with stock control as it is!

same - I bought a new x2d and got two boosts. but I didn’t even know what it was, and that I had it! since this is my first printer from bamboo lab. When others told me that I should have two boosts - of course I went looking and found them already expired! why give out boosts for new devices, if they then disappear? this is a huge disappointment and a huge minus in the experience! Instead of the joy of using a new device, I got huge despair and upset :frowning: VERY VERY unpleasant experience. it would be better if they didn’t give these boosts at all than to bully the user like this

This is the best insight I’ve seen on this and it makes sense. People holding onto them on either side of giving results in money being tied up and a generally growing liability.
