Bottom Layer is Inner Wall

Hello!

Having this slight issue on this print where it’s not recognizing the bottom layer as the bottom surface but instead as inside wall. I’ve tried changing bottom surface thickness and wall counts and other bottom surface settings but nothing is changing. Even if I cant make it be a bottom surface, how can i change the pattern to rectilinear rather than the spaghetti pattern it is?

Trying to print it with the raft, just showing without the raft it still prints as inside wall.

You have walls set to 6 and lots of holes that need walls drawn around them

If you want less walls on the bottom specifically you can use the setting names “Only one wall on first layer” which will allow the algorithm to draw the required walls [only 1], and have room leftover for “bottom surface”

My friend, I think you have uncovered a legitimate bug in the slicer software or A1 firmware. I tried this with Orca 2.3.1 and I was able to reproduced the exact same issue and I could not find a workaround. However, when I took the same file and this time changed the printer preset from your A1 to the stock P1S preset with the same nozzle, low and behold, the bottom layer is treated correctly.

The Only one wall on first layer” doesn’t work with the raft though, it recognizes the raft as first layer, not the object.

Reducing wall count however, did work, but in previous testing, we had strength and quality issues with reduced wall count. I’ll give it another go and see if it’s up to our standard

That is interesting. I tried to see if swapping to P1 presets would fix in bambu studio and I didnt get any change. If you change wall count in Orca slicer to 1, does it generate the bottom surface?

Regardless, it would be great to keep current wall count and still be able to get the bottom layer

I might’ve sent that 3mf wrong… or the raft just didn’t translate. If you add a raft that’s 4 layers thick, does it still work?

Reducing wall did fix the bottom layer, but now quality is greatly decreased. the cube on the left is with just 1 wall, taller one on the right is with 6 wall. Any thoughts on how to clean it up?

I would agree, dont modify the wall count from what you want, thats for the whole model. There’s plenty of levers to pull for first-layer-only.

If i load that 3mf, add one wall on first layer, then add 4 layers of raft:

hmmm. I did same exact thing, I re-opened the one i sent, did the one wall on first layer, and added 4 layers of raft, but am getting different results.

Was this in Orca Slicer I’m guessing?

Sounds like maybe a bug, like olias alluded too.

Try adding a modifier cube to brute force what you want? Right click thing, add part, cube, rescale cube to be 0.15-0.20mm z, cover the object in xy,and reposition it to be located on your bottom. Make the modifier cube have the property Walls=1. That might get you there.

I gave this a try, it fills in all the holes on the bottom. I’m going to see if i can get the Orca Slicer downloaded tomorrow, from what i’ve seen, that will work best.

I tried the adding cube idea - it almost works, it does fill in the “clover” on the bottom along with all the smaller holes.

I was able to get my hands on Orca and it was able to do it just like you said - import, first layer 1 wall and add the raft. Which would give more reason to believe that could be a bug in Bambu Studio.

Studio and Orca are both choking on the combo of a 0.20 process and the 0.15 mm layer height.

Change to a 0.16mm process and 0.15 layers work. (What’s wrong with 0.16mm layers?)

No rafts, modifiers, etc.

In the process of trying to optimize the object for strength, I started with the .20 process and a refined settings until we got to an acceptable point. Come monday I can see what kind of results we get swapping to the .16 process. although I have a feeling that changing to the .20 process will reduce the amount of flow per layer, which will decrease strength. With this print, we are more concerned about strength than quality, of course dont want it to look bad tho. I’ll let you know what happens monday with the .16 process
