I hope someone can help here. I’ve recently taken delivery of my H2S. It’s all now unpacked and I’ve got it set up on the worktop. It has completed the initial setup and calibration. AMS also installed and all filled with PLA (all recognised) and ready to go (I think!). I went to try and run a “test print” but it says cannot complete because nozzle size is incorrect. The test print asked for a 0.4mm nozzle. It’s got a 0.4mm installed (as what came with it pre-installed). I’ve taken the nozzle out, put it back in, changed it for another 0.4mm nozzle. Still says “unrecognised”.
Any ideas as to what I need to do? I’ve raised a support ticket with Bambu but it’s apparently a 3day wait for an answer… So thought I’d just ask on here in case it’s a common issue and an easy fix.
I desperately don’t want to have to package it all up to return it!!
How does the printer actually “recognise” the nozzle? There aren’t any pins or anything on the hotend. There’s a small QR code on the top - is that what it uses? I can’t see a camera/scanner anywhere that would read it mind you! Or is there some sort of embedded RF chip inside the nozzle?
NB: I also read somewhere that it’s a visual/camera thing and some people had forgotten to remove a bit of packaging foam. I checked this and can’t see any foam left…
Do you have it set in the slicer as the same nozzle? IE .4 HF or .4 standard? The nozzle you tell the printer it has must match what you’re using in the slicer.
hi, thanks for the reply. This was just doing a test print from one of the default/stored files (the boat). The file asked for a 0.4mm nozzle (which is in the machine).
When you click on nozzle info, it just says “unrecognised”
As luck would have it, I’ve had a response from the support ticket. They’ve simply asked to make sure latest firmware (it is already) and factory reset.
I hold little hope that will work, but will try. I’ll report back in a few hrs!
Ok, so I have performed a factory reset. Once the new setup/calibration was completed, I looked at the nozzle settings and it had recognised the nozzle! Good times!
I then went to perform a test print (I chose the bambu spin top just because it used 2 colours and I have the AMS installed). Clicked on print and the job started… The head/plate started doing it’s “thing” and then suddenly stopped. Red light and error noise.
I would document that, with pics and a video if possible. Try and include the logs (you’ll have to save them to the USB drive).
For giggles, use Handy and attempt to down grade the update. Handy allows for rollbacks on Firmware. See if it continues with the previous firmware and if so, include that in the ticket.
They have steps they have to follow no matter how aggravating it is. Try and be patient with them.
Take a look at this Wiki page and see if you have any loose screws or loose connections. Long shot I think but worth looking at.
Also for giggles, try a different USB drive. I don’t really think that’s an issue but wouldn’t hurt. At time bad SD cards have cause connection issues etc. At the least format the USB if you haven’t already.
Also remove the cover on the print head and try without it.
Just as a matter of course (in case it happens to help anyone else in the dire straits that I was!) I’ve rolled back the firmware, factory reset the printer, and it is now printing a file for the first time!!
I am perpetually nervous about it throwing up an error again.
But, at present, I am holding my breath for the next 50 mins!

I should also add, once I’d reset and calibrated, I took the nozzle temp up to 200 and back down again, followed by the bed to 65 and back down again. Logical steps in my head to check “communication” with the moving parts…
I’ve had this the last two days since installing the latest firmware. It’s happening each time I start a new print since the update. Same .6 carbide nozzles have been installed for the last 2 mo. I go in, move the sock a little, whip a finger across the nozzle ID, and then the printer will recognize it.
Interesting! I couldn’t get anything to work except firmware rollback and factory reset. I’m not touching anything right now until I’ve got a few prints out of the way!
How does the printer actually “read” the nozzle type? Is it that little QR code sticker on the hotend? Or is it far more complicated than that - like some sort of ID chip inside the nozzle assembly?
Seems like its the QR code on the front of the nozzle. When I tell the printer to try and read the nozzle again it moves the print head towards the camera.
I believe there is a difference between the H2D and the H2S in this perspective, unless an H2S firmware update changed the behaver.
AFAIK, the H2S cannot automatically read the nozzle, and therefore requires you to set it manually using the little pen icon next to the “Unrecognized” name.
On the H2D there is a button “Read Nozzle Info” and that triggers the tool head to move to the left front to capture the codes on the nozzles.
Seeing the screen of the H2S suggests that this auto function is not available on there and that you have to select that manually.
