Bridging and Pauses

I’ve had my A1 for several months now and am finally getting into some design. I’ve made the basic stuff like boxes with dividers and things that can easily print flat going up. I’m working on designing a trophy for work and ran into a couple of questions.

I’ve attached pictures below but essentially there are 3 sections. The base done in reg pla, the coil done in silver silk pla, and the base of the pumpkin done in orange silk pla.

I do not have an AMS so I will insert pauses into the slicer so that I can change the filmament at the proper times. Are the pauses executed at the beginning or the end of the layer you add the pause too? In other words if I want to change colors before it starts printing layer 300, do I add the pause on layer 299 or layer 300?

Also at that particular color change it will create the ‘floor’ of the pumpkin, over the open spaced top of the coil. The blank distance it has to cross is just over 2 inches… wasn’t sure if the A1 was capable of doing that. I did enable auto generated tree supports it didn’t add any for that section. Just figured I’d ask since I won’t know until the very end of the print when I actually go to print it.

I sliced it without the supports to make it easier to see. Thanks.

With three distinct parts like that I’d design them as three parts that print separately and then glue or bolt them together.

The lack of support could be that it couldn’t figure out how to place support in that for the pumpkin floor but looks like you wouldn’t be able to remove it even if it could figure how to place it?

The pause inserts at the beginning of the layer, so layer 300.

If you need to rest the bridging, slice the bottom off/ lower the model down into the plate to just below where you need to start bridge to test it.

I concur with @MZip suggestion to print 3 different parts.

Yea that was my question because if supports were added it would be almost impossible to get them out. Google shows me some folks saying bridging up to 120mm is great but I wasn’t sure how true that is lol.
I could duplicate the coil create holes to assemble later, I just thought might be sturdier printed as one solid piece, because this is the base and will have the top of the pumpkin printed separately that sits on the top unsecured so you can access the tealight inside.

The test print is a good idea. Thanks for the pause specifics.
