Recently i have trouble with some Picture Formats on Makerworld .
My Google Pixel 8 take pictures in the RAW Mode , DNG Files can be uploaded with the App and over the Website. but ist shows a blank file on the makerworld Website. If you download the picture manual you got the DNG Files back and see the Picture but in the Browser you dont see it.
Is there a solution that makerworld convert it to PNG after Upload to the Plattform ? or build in a Fix to convert the pictures locally on the Device befor Upload to makerworld.
That’s not a bug… Or rather - allowing to upload DNG’s is a bug. DNG raws need to be processed into display format, such as jpeg or similar.
Why are you uploading DNG files? That shouldn’t be allowed. My Pixel 6a takes photos in normal mode, and outputs JPGs to Google Photos, from which I download them.
I use a Pixel 8 Pro and have it set up to save images in both RAW (DNG) and JPEG formats to ensure I have the highest possible quality for further editing on my PC. However, in the gallery view, it doesn’t show clear indicators of which file is the JPEG and which is the RAW DNG file. This often leads to confusion during selection, as I sometimes end up choosing the DNG file by mistake, which then results in compatibility issues.
Many users with default settings on their devices might not encounter this problem, as they only have JPEGs saved by default. However, for those of us who want optimal quality and use the phone’s Pro Mode to save DNG files, this can be quite disruptive. Having to repeatedly switch my device’s settings for a quick snapshot is inconvenient and counterintuitive.
- Increased Data Usage and Load Times: DNG images retain their original file size, which can be very large due to their uncompressed nature. When DNG files are uploaded and displayed in comments or posts, the large size results in excessive data consumption and higher traffic loads. This is especially challenging on mobile devices and slower connections, where it leads to significant slowdowns and performance issues on the platform.
- Display and Compatibility Issues: Since DNG is a raw image format, it’s not universally compatible with web and app platforms, which often cannot render it properly. This leads to inconsistent display in comments or threads, with images sometimes failing to load at all. Implementing an automatic conversion to JPEG for uploaded images would resolve these display inconsistencies and ensure reliable image rendering on the platform.
- Security Concerns: Allowing unsupported formats like DNG to be uploaded without filtering can introduce security vulnerabilities. Unfiltered file types can potentially contain malicious code or data that hasn’t undergone standard security checks. JPEG, as a web standard, has more predictable behavior, and filtering uploads to this format could enhance security by ensuring only verified image types are used.
Suggested Solution: Implementing a background conversion process in both the app and website that automatically converts uploaded images to JPEG would address these issues. This way, the system could handle conversions seamlessly without requiring user intervention.

I upload the Pictures over the App and if you select “From Gallery” you don’t see the Difference if it is DNG or JPG
