Building basic color library of filament stock in PTEG or PLA?

Play away!
And… I can imagine that being a huge part of your decisions. Of course, none of us has an expiration date. Enjoy life and happy new year!

OK, now what’s your preference between PLA Basic or PLA Matte?
I generally speaking like a matte finish, but the shine of some filaments has grown on me, just like tolerance for layer lines.

100% I prefer matte, prints just look more real like products to me. Gloss works for some things of course and where it’s intentional; but if bbl sold their entire color selection from basic in matte I’d only have matte tbh.

Silly rabbit. Never limit, just buy.

Matte is often considered decorative with PLA Basic being functional.

Matte can (not always) be easier to separate at layer lines.

I have all of each as you know.

I favour PLA Basic, but, there are a few Matte shades that are absolutely great.

If you will be printing anything that requires part of it to rub up against another, PLA Basic is your solution.

Thanks everyone!
I canceled a 3D software subscription this year that I only used a handful of times in 2024, so I figured if I open an Etsy store in 2025, this is all business expenses!

In case this helps (I have no idea what stage you are at or what experience).

Business expense everything, keep the receipts and document it all.

I owned a business from the age of 22 until I was forced to retire due to ill health stuff at 49, I am 51 now. I did things well and I did things poorly.

Get a great accountant, they will more than pay for themselves.

Make sure you are having fun, otherwise, it is not worth it.

Thanks both of you for the tips,
Coincidentally I just opened my Etsy shop yesterday: https://joeylopezdesign.etsy.com/

I’m very nervous and likely over planning, but it is indeed fun and I’m enjoying the process thus far. As for sales… that will be another story…

It always helps to share this information! I didn’t learn this stuff growing up but did get a great accountant when I was 25 who showed me how to set up an S-Corp and I’ve been doing that ever since. My company is in media production so just about everything is a business expense. However, over the long run you still have to be showing a profit otherwise the IRS sees you as a hobby.
And I’ll be turning 51 too in February, GenX high-five!
