I have very tall slender model that only successfully prints on the H2D if I run it in silent model.
I can modify the start g-code to add “M220 S50” which I believe is equivalent to turning on silent mode. If I share the print profile on MakerWorld, I don’t think that change will apply to people that download it.
Instead of doing that, how can I build it into the print profile? Will halving all of the speed values do it? Or is there a different way?
There are a number of ways I can imagine. Of course, halving all speeds (and accelerations: it takes 2mm at max acceleration to reach max speed) is one.
Another approach would be to try the new speed-reduction-with-height feature in the current Beta. I haven’t tried it myself though.
Finally, you could of course use modifiers to slow down with increasing height.
But there may be other ways in which the profile can be tweaked. Adding side supports, avoiding crossing infill patterns or just prominently warning about curling issues (=> Dry filament! Warm chamber, local layer height,…) can all help depending on the specific failures you are seeing.
I would suggest checking the slice and seeing if you are currently speed limited due to hitting max flow, or if you are limited by the speed settings. If it is max flow limited, adjusting your speed settings will not make the impact you expect and you would need to limit the max flow rate. This setting will likely not transfer well to Makerworld and other printers as I am assuming most people will load in their own filament settings.
I decided not to do the height based slowdown because I assume it’ll change the surface texture at the point of slowdown.
So I looked at the model and the only things I was printing on the top half of the model was inside walls, outside walls, and sparse infill. I halved the speed for those three on the whole model and tried it again and unfortunately it was still knocked over.
Now I’m going to try it again and slow down all the acceleration values by half too.
