Does anyone know what is the best buildplate for PCTG?
I believe smooth and textured work well.
The filament is susceptible to environmental temperature changes, be concerned with draughts, ideally an enclosed printer.
I know engineering plate doesn’t work. I tried bambu glue stick and liquid glue. PCTG doesn’t stick well. I had mixed results with textured plate. If anyone have tried smooth plate or super tac (1 or 2) please share experience
What bed temp are you using?
I think I went up to 100C and couldn’t get it to stick to PEI.
It’s starting to hit Amazon at PLA prices.
I’m not seeing any pctg for 20$, but a chinese copy for 28. 3D fuel should be sticking well on textured pei at 75 - 80 max.
Sometimes it needs glue to stop it sticking too well.
If you are going to pay 20.99 USD for PLA, I don’t think it’s fair to call that PLA price. It’s signficantly over the average for reliable filament. I’ve just checked Amazon USA and you can get 4 kilos for 44 dollars, from a brand that I know works.
It’s what BL charges for refills. Polymaker often costs a bit more. Oveture is around that price except for sales, Sunlu has HS PLA and PLA+ for around 20ish as well. Cheaper filament is cheap. There are some decent lower cost PLAs but you have to hunt for them.
the price difference between overture and polymaker surprises me as they’re the same comnapnuy. i suspect one has better colors or maybe higher quality?
it’s.a contrast with sunlu and jayo which are also the same, but also sell in similar price. jayo is better for multipacks of basic colours tho (as in they only sell basic colors). in the case of those 2 i literally can’t tell prints apart if made with either unless it;s a fancy color becuase jayo doesnt make them.
Just read an article where the Australians are trying to trace ghost guns by filament type/brand. They found there’s no way, but that almost all the filament is made by only a few companies and is white labeled. Sunlu, Polymaker, eSun. Surprised there’s so much spread in price as it is.
“Chip Binning” strategy
Make 1000 spools, apply some sort of quality measurement
Best quality ones go to Polymaker brand
Next quality ones go to Overture
etc etc whatever their actual org structure is
And somewhere in the stinky dark corner of the factory, they put the spools destined for jayo and kingroon 
They probably do bin like that for some brands, but the colours are different and I don’t see quality difference betwene Polymaker and Overture.
Polymakers marketing is ridiculous though. They don’t appear to have a euro region factory store, and they have maybe 3,000 different filament labels (today I think it’s polycolour chroma lite colourmax?) and it’s so hard to even figure out what to buy.
edit I will also say that the colour matching and flow between overture and bamby matte is suspiciously similar. Though I read that Bambu now manufactures their own filament but only certain types.
Except the most are made in China, some are made in USA, some are made in Europe, and I imagine there’s some made a at least 1 or 2 other places. Now, the raw plastic pellets may be made only by a few companies; and, a lot of the Chinese filament brands are probably all made by just one or two facilities.
