Burn hole on top left of build plate

Had my P1S a few weeks, fantastic. I noticed recently a burn hole on the top right of my build plate. I’m wondering if this is normal or something has gone wrong at some point.

Certainly not normal. What’s the table look like? There’s nothing with enough current above the table to cause anything like that. And the plate is not conductive on the surfaces. Looks like welding dross.

Hmmm… It seems like the issue you’re describing doesn’t match the typical burn marks seen on sticker-based build plates. Instead, it resembles more of a collision with the nozzle. Given its location, it’s possible that the plate wasn’t lying flat and may have risen above the corner brackets, which is easy to overlook.

Textured PEI doesn’t burn since it’s powder-coated steel and not a sticker. It would likely melt and scratch the powder coat and steel plate instead, especially since the underlying steel is so close to the surface. Burn holes are more commonly associated with materials like the engineering plate and high-temp plate where the sticker is actually burned through.

Just for good measure, you may want to closely inspect your print nozzle for damage either way.

Are you sure that you never laid the plate down on a live power supply. It looks like arcing but there is no way this could have occured inside the printer if it really is arcing.

Hopefully this isn’t the case. I’m working away but when I get home i a few days I’ll check the bed and maybe put a multimeter across the nozzle and earth in case something horrid is going on.

I bet this is what happened. It doesn’t seem to be getting any worse.

I’ve only ever put the plate on the bed so I don’t think this is it.

Thanks everyone.
