Has anyone tried selecting a different region to what they usually do and buying a gift card?
Basically, I have enough points for another gift card, but I’d like to claim it in a non-UK region and then spend it on the relevant BambuLab store for delivery in that region (i.e not UK) using my BL/MW account which is obviously a UK account.
I would of course try this, but I also have some unused UK gift cards I don’t want to mess up or somehow switch my account permanently to the other region. The message above in the grey box suggests the existing cards should be ok, but not exactly clear how it works with store/account region.
tldr; can you buy gift cards in different regions and spend them in the different regions using the same Bambu Lab / Maker World account.
I have bought gift cards in the US region when I normally purchase them from the UK region.
I gave them away to a friend (more than once, different people).
They were able to spend them without issue.
IMPORTANT
Do not go to your profile and assign them to your account and do not go to the checkout and enter the code. Either of these actions will lock those gift cards to you and they then cannot be used by someone else.
Your existing gift cards, those you have claimed or could claim will be unaffected.
Thanks for the reply, that’s interesting it does work. But I thought gift cards are now locked to your account and non transferable to other users? BTW I was hoping to make the purchase with my existing account, just in another region.
My MakerWorld profile and account? Isn’t that automatic? I usually go to the points shop, buy a gift card (and assuming there are no additional checks) it is then automatically added to my Redemption History tab.
Or is there a way to add them to a Bambu Lab store account? If so, I’ve never done that, I usually just manually copy the codes from Redemption History and paste in at checkout.
I’ve not spent/redeemed any recently so this whole process may have changed.
Bambu Lab said that only happens if you do either of the things I mentioned not to do.
Absolutely, I am nit suggesting you do anything else.
I think this is the confusion.
Yes, but…
If you buy cards using your account, they are yours, but they are not LOCKED to your account.
They lock is the differentiator here.
I used the word assign here as that is their term, but, if you think of it as “locking” it makes more sense.
You are logged in using your account and connected to the U.K. points store, you buy a gift card.
You now swap the US points store and buy a second gift card.
Both are assigned to you, but neither is locked to you.
If you do either of the things above, only you can add them to a basket.
You can give the gift card code to a friend, they enter it to the BL store for a purchase and it is used as a discount. If they do not complete the purchase, it has been locked to their account and only they can use it again in the future.
The locking makes the card only available to that account.
This is all based on their most recent public statements a couple of months ago.
This is the thread I remember reading months back so since then I just assumed they were non-transferable between accounts. But after delving into the replies I see this comment confirms what you’re saying.
