Can you win a contest with no printing profile?

I have a simple question: is it possible to win a MakerWorld contest without printing my model?

I recently enjoyed designing models for contests, but the last one I worked on was the ‘Coffee goes places’ x OutIn contest. I don’t own an OutIn coffee machine and never will, as I hate coffee :grimacing:. But I love challenging myself, and I came up with an idea for a design that requires nearly 1 kg of plastic and very small TPU parts (1.87 g).

For economic and ecological reasons, it makes no sense for me to print it.

I want to share my work, whether I win or not — I see it as training — but it would also help me a lot to win a contest, both economically and in the knowledge that the models I worked on for hours are useful and appreciated.

I saw that you can share models without printing profiles. Do you think I have a chance? I prepared the complete printing profile, but I can’t publish it without certifying that you printed the file.

It sounds extremely selfish and for several days I had resigned myself not to post my design, but I find it hard to tell myself that I’m going to leave it without knowing whether or not it deserves to be rewarded or even just appreciated by a few people.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

From my interpretation of the rules (see highlights below) a print profile is not required but is recommended. You are correct that in order to share a print profile, you must confirm that you have successfully printed the model yourself.

Thanks for your reply, just after publishing I realized that I had answered all alone wanting to quote the rules …

So I’m only going to post bambu studio’s 3mf (the printing profile but which I wouldn’t have printed but for which I’m 95% sure it has no problems) and 3D renderings, I hope that despite that it can be spotted!

Dont forget the photo that must be included with uploads
assuming @MakerWorld rules still have to be followed to comply with contest rules or vice versa

But as @MaKim said and show in highlight for the rule. I should be able to post only that to enter thé contest, no ?

When uploading I will have to choose the option “without 3mf printing profile”, upload renders and a 3mf I think is the most optimized to print my model. This as I understand is within the rules mentionned.

It still respect what I believe to be just a concept and not fool people who wants to print it

That’s not even close of what I meant, maybe because english is not my mother tongue I made mistake un syntaxe that led you think that. I asked because I don’t want to break the rules … @MaKim seemed to have confirmed that a print profile is not required ! And if I remember well (I don’t have acces to a pc for a few days) the second option in makerworld to upload mention that you can upload STL AND 3mf … The printing profile area will then show a blank asking for people to upload their own printing profile as people do for remix ect.

If you and other people think this file must not be shared then i’ll post only the STL leaving people who wants to print anyway discover which orientation and settings to use.

I’m trying to understand the rule, so why is it clearly written that rendering photos and no printing profiles are accepted? Hence the opening of my topic, which was quickly resolved by @makim, I think? What am I missing here?

I don’t want to insist, just to understand what I’m missing.

Yes, just to affirm, @MZip is correct that uploading a print profile using a 3MF does require a confirmation that the model has been printed. Separately, it does appear that you can also upload a 3MF as a “Raw Model File” the same way you upload an STL - this does not create a print profile and does not require confirmation of successful print.

Having said all of this, to speak to the original question, although the contest rules do not appear to require a print profile, I would expect that not having one would greatly decrease your chances of being selected. My guess is that the MakerWorld team would want their selected models to have a good printing experience. As a result, they may be less likely to choose projects that do not include them.

Thanks for your explanations, so the 3mf that can be downloaded with or instead of the STL must not be a printing profile.

My intention was to give a basis for people who want to print it in spite of that. I understand that it’s better to post screenshots if I’m only posting the STL to help make a profile than to give a file that hasn’t been printed.

And I agree about selecting a model that’s already been printed to win, hence my initial question, which must have been asked incorrectly in this case …

I give up. I swear the wording got changed. Here is the checkbox now. Maybe it changes when doing an stl. This is from a 3mf.

Do whatever you want. This playing field is shifting and changing and what you do today may be fine tomorrow.

I apologize for wasting your time since Bambu seems to have quit trying. That or I’m misrembering what the checkbox used to say.

It does look that way but it’s a strange scenario. When choosing to only upload Raw Model Files (and no print profile) I’m not seeing a checkbox where you confirm that you have printed the model. It seems that the checkbox only appears when uploading a print profile.

I could be wrong, though & will edit my previous replies if that’s the case - don’t want to be spreading incorrect info!

Nope - I think you are right. I just checked the wording on the checkbox and now it says nothing about having printed the model.

Trying to abide shifting rules and requirements stinks. I learned my lesson and won’t be involved in any more discussions of posting rules. This is bs. I swear that checkbox used to be a testament that the model printed.

Yes it did. The changes to the rules weren’t communicated anywhere to my knowledge.

That is so unlike them!

I am being facetious.

Assuming this is the link the print profile guidelines links to MakerWorld Print Profile Upload Guidelines | Bambu Lab Wiki

Then yes you’re still required to upload a photo with a print profile, raw model files don’t need them but if you’re ticking that box then you agree to the guidelines which state it needs a photo

It does say so on the guidelines. In addition to the photo requirement, the guidelines also has a list of Prohibited Practices, and some recommended practices. So the change is for the better, in my view.

I noticed this change in wording and the link to the guidelines when I uploaded a model this morning.

Once again you seem to have invaluable information, MaKim! This might be my answer to the current problem with the knocker being locked out of updating thanks to Bambu’s unannounced new rule on time to slice and even the photo thing.

If I remove the 3mf as a print profile and just post the files it may get around this new slice time rule.

I’m still pretty peeved there has been no response from @BambuLab or @MakerWorld on the newest requirements.

Accept the Bull ■■■■

I am surprised a company that size can not have one person that their only job is to reply to the forum.

Yeah it’s not ideal (since you can’t print from Handy) but maybe at least a stop-gap while whatever hiccups in the cloud slicer are resolved
