Can't get logic of filaments / filament always appears with *

This is nightmare.

I created custom process and want to use it for every project. If I load this process preset into the project and change something (e.g. filament to use for support) the name process name comes with *, and things being changed are highlighted orange. This is great and understandable.

Now I created custom filament type in the Studio and want to use it for every project.

First, this filament becomes included into each project under “Project” selection. Second, every time I use the filament profile somewhere else when I reopen previous project the filament name comes with *.

Then it complains "You have changes the preset , " in the window titled “use modified value or filament preset”, with buttons “Save”, “discard modified value” and “use modified value”. This is totally unintuitive.

  1. I did not modify preset. I just included it into another project.
  2. Save to where? To user defined filament preset or to this project?
  3. which values to discard - the ones in user defined filament preset or in current project
  4. And most important - I can not find the way to figure out WHAT actually changed and why it has * in the filament name.

I suspect the Studio tries to tell me the strange way that since I opened this project last time user defined filament profile (in the filament gear section) has changed. But as I said I did NOT change it, and I suspect if I have selected “Custom” in the filament list and the specific name it must explicitly say that custom filament properties have changed when OPENING the project (and probably provide details) but not silently put * and let user try figuring out what has changed searching in unknown locations.

And another related thing - I still not sure if I print with the filament I (hopefully) configured into the project gcode file. Printer does NOT say the name, therefore it may be using some default profile and therefore all the tuning I perform for the specific filament may simply not apply.

I use USB drive to carry the files to print.

That’s an easy one. Besides all your other custom settings, increase or decrease the print temperature of the filament by one degree - so if normally it was 230, make it 231.

During the print you’ll easily be able to know if your custom filament profile is running just by seeing what the hotend temperature is.

Had the same idea to try this way. I hope that generated g-code file does not need anything out of Studio and has everything printer needs to print (otherwise it would simply be a bad system design). BUT - with what I see in the studio seem to lead to different results of the slicing and then to different g-code file. I’d expect, as soon as I have designed the project, to have tool producing exactly the same output, otherwise show the differences and explain the sources of the differences.

Silent changes to existing project are not the right way to go.

I use my own custom profiles & filament profiles also.

Sometimes when BS updates it will change 1-2 of the default settings. So when I use a custom setting & see an *, if I don’t see anything Orange…I look into filament temp, bed temp, cooling settings.
