Is there a way to get the H2 chamber to start heating sooner when printing filaments such as ABS. It currently seems like its the last thing that happens in the start up sequence.
Why could it not start to heat as soon as the head homing begins to reduce the time to print start?
I use Studio to turn on the chamber heater manually and I let it run while I’m finalizing everything for the print to come. If I get it started soon enough, the chamber is already at temperature before I click “PRINT”.
You can use Bambu Studio (already stated), Bambu Handy or the screen on the printer.
Pre warming is a manual process, think “preheating the oven”. You choose the temperature (match to the filament’s needs and the duration (time between warming and starting the actual print).
I recommend using a timer on a watch or phone so you don’t forget.
I haven’t looked at the print initialization gcode, but it should be possible to make a custom printer profile that will engage the chamber heater at the very start of the print.
That said, I suspect Bambu’s strategy for component heating sequence is based on limiting peak current draw, to avoid blowing breakers for machines running on 110VAC - so if your printer is on a shared circuit, this may be too much for that circuit. If that’s the case you would want to enable “low power mode”, it will take longer to heat up the bed, but that would just give you more time for the chamber to heat up, I guess.
I’ll turn on the chamber heater and bed to the desired temp before a print (say it’s cold) to get a jumpstart on the process. No idea what the thought process is behind bambu making it one of the last steps.
I run a lot of prints where when one print ends, the hot build plate is removed full of parts still stuck to the plate, a new build plate is put in, and restart the print while it is still piping hot inside chamber / bed. They don’t seem to have a problem with doing that 24/7.
I wish it was different or at least explained the reasoning behind it as well.
I do this also for anything with a plate >70c. Set the bed and/or chamber while you’re doing the slicing. Any time you can give entropy to do it’s work on the build plate is very valuable insurance to getting a good first layer.
It’d be really cool (ha! pun) if there was a “preheat” button in the Studio UI - One click to start up the bed and chamber heaters.
If I think to pre heat the chamber, I am just adding extra steps to the inevitable
