Choose a different AMS slot for print?

Can we have an option in the H2D that I can pick whatever AMS slot I want to print a file please?

Having to slice the same file for different colors is really annoying, because then I need multiples of that same file to sort through. Can we get an option to pick an AMS slot to print a file with from within the printer itself please?

Once per nozzle and material is sufficient. If you find yourself repeating the process for every color, something is off. Just keep in mind that different colors can require different flow ratios and/or PA values.

It’s really not sufficient though. If I design something and want to sell it in a variety of colors then I realistically need to slice it once per color and have a different print file for every color. That’s silly. On my personal printer that’s single nozzle I have on eprint file per material and I just swap out filament colors as needed and print the same file. I’ve never needed to worry about PA values and flow ratios for 99% of things I’ve printed.

I suppose I could just lie with the AMS and put whatever color I want in and just print it again with the AMS thinking it’s still the same color.

The only time I see it being needed to have multiple print files is for different materials. I’ve got some that have it sliced with PETG, ABS, etc for the same part. That makes sense.

It still works exactly the same: one slice per nozzle and material. Color has nothing to do with it.
I can slice a rainbow if I want to — PETG red, PETG green, PETG purple — and later decide to print it only in PETG pink and PETG blue. As long as the main material and left/right assignment is correct, the printer doesn’t care what color I sliced with.
Brand and material type matter because the printer needs to know flow ratio, PA and temperature limits. Color doesn’t affect those.

Your comment assumes the printer ties calibration values to the “visible color.” It doesn’t.
If two spools are the same material type but different colors, you can swap them freely and use the same print file. If they are not calibrated the same, that’s a property of the filament batches — not the slicing step.

And since this is the H2 thread: the H2 lineup doesn’t behave like old single-nozzle machines where material changes were baked into how the G-code worked. These printers can handle multiple materials in the same file, same print, same toolhead. Changing color inside the same material category doesn’t require a new slice.

So slicing “per color” is simply unnecessary here. It’s the material profile that matters, not the shade of it.
