I’ve got 20+ ideas for the Christmas contest, so I’m wondering when it will start. Anyone from @MakerWorld able to say?

Last year’s contest ran Nov 12 - Dec 3rd. There were 1600 entries last year. After the massive Halloween contest (4000+ entries), I can’t even imagine how many entries will be in the inevitable Christmas contest. Last year my entry didn’t win a prize, but was in the top 5% of downloaded models and helped establish me as a designer. This year I have already uploaded a Christmas design and will be uploading another soon. If I come up with something for the contest, so be it. But I’m not going to hold off until then. Christmas items are already starting to trend and the contest will really be too big to gain as much attention as it did last year.

I can’t even imagine how many entries will be the inevitable Christmas contest.
The current 5,000 various ghost models are going to be converted to snowmen.

Me too, I’m thinking snowmen, Santas, Christmas trees, maybe some baby Jesus dolls if I remember what it is meant to be about.
I truly think I can be unique this year, who would think of those models?
I will stand out.

Last year I made a Home Alone house LED display that I thought was going to be a hit. It wasn’t (80 prints). My wife suggested a nativity scene using the same display method. Like what does she know!?–Except that it took off (2.3K prints between the original and remix).
Then I hoped to further this Christmas success and created a mini filament spool ornament (42 prints), a mini X1C Christmas ornament (16 prints) and mini Bambu printer Christmas light lantern (0 prints). I was really proud of these models and thought they would be big. Nope.
Just gotta keep trying. Make sure your models are setup well, take good photos, and cross your fingers. And listen to your wife - if you have one of those.

I feel this, some designs you put the work into and it’s not as popular as you think and then some are quick and pop off
It does seem that the designs that are the most work end up doing the worst.

Yeah, it makes sense when you think of the average user on MW. Quick prints, low filament use, easy to no assembly, and avoids non-3D printed parts are what a majority are looking for and complex designs are almost always in the opposite way of these.

If MakerWorld let us enter any models made after Oct 1st I wouldn’t complain, but yeah I’ll probably just start uploading. Got an ornament pack already up and it’s doing OK. It’s got 131 collects and 44 downloads/25 prints, so it’ll probably trend upwards as time goes on. So long as people remember to check their collections

That’s true… First time I saw a funny duck model I thought “oh! that’s neat! quite creative” and then I looked into it and I’m gonna bet 5€ we’ll see: santa duck, reindeer duck, elf duck, snowman duck and so on…
