Clean Your Nozzles, It's Easy

I’ve been having problems with my support for PLA/PETG and it seems as though it may be related to my left nozzle that I’ve been using. As part of my research into the issue it became apparent that doing a cold pull on the nozzle would be beneficial. I’ve never done a cold pull but looked up in the wiki H2C Nozzle Cold Pull Maintenance and Cleaning | Bambu Lab Wiki and it didn’t look like that difficult of a process especially on the H2C as it was relatively automated. Turns out it was as simple as it could be and I’m going to start incorporating it as part of my regular maintenance routine.

I figured I would submit this post in case there are those who weren’t aware of the process or aware of how easy and automated it is with the H2C. Just click on the wiki link above and it will walk you through it.

Did it help your problems with support for PLA/PETG?

The support issue is documented here, Nozzles leaking? - #20 by Esquare I appear to have worked out the support issue prior to the cold pull by switching the support and pla from left to right nozzle and back again. That’s what led me to doing the cold pull as I thought running the pla through the left nozzle some how cleaned it out a little bit.

what helped was exactly the opposite: it’s the PLA contamination left in nozzle helped it to adhere, not cleaning.

If this contamination helped, then I still don’t see it as a solution. It’s virtually impossible to maintain a certain degree of contamination for the support issue.

Another support filament (plain simple PETG HF works fine for me) would probably be a better solution.

Yes I agree it’s not a solution.

If printed very slowly it should work better though. Especially with the latest beta slicer, it seems that the adhesion is not as bad as before.

In the latest slicer I see that during priming of a material of a different category, the temperature is raised quite a bit. I saw +25C at some point. Not sure it kept that during the printing of the interface though.

A bit hotter for the support interface wouldn’t hurt imho.

tbh so far ive use PETG/PLA interchangeably for supports/model, same as tpu/pla, abs+asa/hips, abs/pa6gf+cf. No adhession problems , only tuning ive done is pa , flowrate, temp. Maybe try using the actual filament not “support for” version, i have not used those dedicated ones. Also success rate is consistent between bambulab, esun, elegoo, polymaker, spectrum, verbatim and some random no name brands ive got.
One actual small issue ive found is that before tuning pa and flow, hips would bond too tightly to abs.
After tuning, i have a literally 0 worries experience regarding supports, be it classic, organic or hybrid. And this means something since people surely remember how frustrated i was with h2d performance regarding supports.
