This is a question out of interest: How many people have designed something for this contest? That lets us set a bar for how much effort you want to put into designing something if you even want to
At least you can see that niche products are also supported by Makerworld. MW posed this question to the users some time ago
It would be nice if MW had given the reason for this.
Das ist mir zu wenig:

We are very excited to tease the upcoming MakerWorld Contest—CMF by Nothing Phone 1 Design Contest!
Tell us the reason or the story behind why you are organising this competition. Let us share in your enthusiasm, publish any necessary sketches, with dimensions etc. In short, everything that is necessary to design something for it. Also provide instructions for later assembly, make your product that serves as the basis of the competition as clear as possible.
Excited that MW is partnering with other OEMs to expand the contests on MW! Went ahead and posted some designs while waiting for the contest to begin.
CMF Phone 1 VersaMag Accessories System
I have one request for @MakerWorld/@Tanklet even before the contest begins. Just like any contest on MW, I’m sure there will be a lot of entries that will be submitted that is not even remotely related to the contest theme. I hope that the MW team will be more vigilant and remove non-related entries right away as it clouds focus on the theme of the contest.
Also, because this contest is focused on accessorizing/customizing the CMF Phone 1, the ideas could be limited and I anticipate that as the contest progress, there would be lots of copying of ideas from early submissions. How are you going to enforce/control that @MakerWorld/@Tanklet?
It looks great, with nice photos and captioning.
Just as I predicted. Immediately following the start of the contest, ideas are already being copied. Take for example below. @BuildyBryce was the first to submit the idea/concept of a backplate that has pegs for bricks and fun_prints submitted an entry with the same idea. Can we report this @MakerWorld / @Tanklet? Are you going to control these?
Another one is a quadlock backplate with 3 entries of the same concept have been submitted. It appears that @Giuggix was the first to come up and execute the idea.
for brick case…
Could say both copied… brick case is to generic of idea…
But green one should be reported because is rendered image.
Other i can’t comment on/. no clue what it is lol
I agree about the brick pegs being too generic. However buildybryce has been posting designs with pegs for a while. He has brick key caps, Bambu mouse with brick surface, etc.
The contest does state they rather have real prints, although they are not mandatory.
I still think they should release more STEP files, as they only have the back. They only added some images with dimensions, but I do believe they are limiting the participation by not including all the STEP files to make a dummy and create accessories that don’t necessarily attach to the back only.
Isn’t a real photo required for all models though?
Absolutely. Having an STL for a dummy phone that fits against the back they gave us would be incredibly useful.
As of right now, I’m designing something and have no sense whether it will really fit and how well. I really dislike the idea of publishing without actually being able to test it.
The alternative, of course, is to limit the designs to modifications of the back, but that seems really limiting given the spirit of the phone.
- Include photos or renderings of the model(s), preferably showcasing actual makes of the model.
Make out of that what you will.
I’ve never really taken the time to read through this in detail, but it looks like photos are only required if its CC0? This isn’t what most people on here. have said, so that’s why I was confused. Profiles do require images though.
The rules of the contest seem to differ a bit from the rules of the platform.
Good old Makerworld guideline/rule consistency, when you question it they literally telling you “cause I said so”. Anyone getting pipped for no pics can just rely on their flaky rules scattered over the site.
Oh didn’t know this opps lol
FYI:
Is it just me or in the contest page Phone Parts dimensions are too tiny to be read?
