I want to print different colors on the bottom and on the top layer of a print.
When I select Color Painting → Fill in Bambu Studio and paint the bottom of the model (pic. 1), then switch to the Preview tab, I can’t set a filament color change at a specific layer (pic. 2).
When I use the Height Range painting option, the slicer doesn’t print the top 3 layers fully in the selected color, but only partially (pic. 3).
The color change at layer height feature is indeed disabled when any painting is applied to a model (even if the height doesn’t intersect any painting). I don’t know why exactly… probably it may cause some issue in some situations and no one has worked on that.
As fro the artifacts coming through onto the top surface… is the top supposed to be smooth? Or is there a pattern on top there also? If the former, then is seems like some of the painting is “bleeding through” to the top? Painting can do some funky things… I could see that happening on a thinner piece. You could try reducing the paint penetration settings perhaps (Strength → Top/bottom shells).
It would be easier to give more practical advice if you could post your project, or a version of it that replicates the same problem.
I noticed that when I use Preview → Change Filament, the system changes the filament only on the layers I select (pic. 1). But when I use Prepare → Color Painting → Fill, it also colors parts of the lower layers (pic. 2 and 3).
Is it possible to apply color only to the top layers in the Preview view?
Changing the top paint penetration layers was exactly what I needed to do to go from 5 filament swaps to a single swap. I’m using my AMS2 and an external spool of glow-in-the-dark to print some dinosaur magnets with glowing bones, but swapping 5 times with an external spool is more than I’m willing to do for some fridge magnets. You saved me lots of time and some filament waste, so thank you very much!
