I wanted to do some fairly complex colour selection of an existing model with a finely ridged edge - plus also shave a bit off.
As the cut tool only allows straight lines - I decided to try using negative parts.
I created two cutting tools in fusion 360
The first one to separate out the middle section,
And another one to chop off the middle and right of the model.
I then cloned the model and placed the clone exactly over the top of the original model (using the number fields in the move tool).
I then applied one negative part to one instance and the other negative part to the 2nd instance.
I then ended up with this after slicing.
Might seem a strange thing to want to do to a benchy - but there is method in it - I am using the colouring to drive an idex printer - to tell it which parts to mirror and which parts are too close to the middle to mirror - so need to be printed with one print head.
Background info here not he IDEX printer.
