Commercial membership and Paypal...both should not co-exist anymore!

Incase some of you isn’t aware that recently PayPal changed their terms and conditions, some user started facing PayPal accounts permanent termination due to their new integrated AI flagging transactions as fraudulent and people losing their balances with no justified reason.
See…most users who got their accounts banned are either creators like us (digital content or online service providers, and some who sold physical items).

i have not thought much about it due my account is only been used for makerworld commercial membership and few contest payments from other platforms, i keep it clean so i don’t face such mentioned above issues.

so today out of nowhere i got an email (a buyer has filed a case) usually with the current situation with paypal my heart dropped, and sure thing this is the end of a clean account, after a quick inspection i found out that one of my subscribers filed for refund (reason: buyer did not authorize payment) how beautiful of them to file a refund on paypal rather than cancelling the membership (which was in the 30 days on hold period). and what is worse is the user is level 1, which correct me if i am wrong they cant receive messages on makerworld right ? i did send a message but no response.
and FYI I’m welling to do the refund because its just a 4$ and I’m thinking the user might forgot to cancel the subscription or maybe lost access to their makerworld account which worries me that they will get charged every month and then they file a refund again, and my paypal flies toward getting banned.

sorry for the long intro but this is why i did this topic title, and that CM should not be paid via paypal due to such acts from buyers that could get my account banned and lose my $$ which i got from other platforms as well.

i would urge makerworld to give us the option to choose between paypal (for those who can only use paypal, and between getting the membership payment to be credited to our makeworld wallets to be cashed later similar to the commission incentives program mainly for avoid frauds and cases as such.

thank you for taking the time to read, i hope this be helpful to you in the future in regards of paypal new changes.

There are two things you need to realize:

  • Unfortunately, this is a common experience when dealing with customers.
  • You’re no longer just a hobbyist; in that case, you’re a small business.

I hope you have specified to PayPal that this is a business account. This is the most common reason why PayPal closes accounts. If you listed it as personal, but actually using it for business. Artists, content designers, and others in similar fields are particularly prone to falling into this trap.

This ultimately brings us to the following: As a business, you have to be able to deal with customers like that. It’s annoying, no question! But it’s just part of everyday business.

That’s the harsh reality when you turn your hobby into a job and earn your first dollar. Many people aren’t aware that even the first dollar can be considered as a business. It doesn’t have to be! But it can be!

I hope you registered this as a business account; otherwise, that will soon be the least of your problems, and PayPal will simply withhold the money due to false information and maybe fraud on your part.

It just depends on your sales and PayPal’s mood whether they classify you as a business.

receiving contests gift needs a business account as well ?

the issue with where iam located having a business accounts need business registrations which requires startup fees, renewal fee, etc as a normal business, having a paypal as a hobbyist is allowed where iam at, but having it as a business goes with regulation and a whole deep story.

well if makeworld commercial membership considered as a sale, sure thing i will remove the membership till they developers add a makerworld wallet payment option.

thank you for your comment, you provided helpful information.
