Compatibility Anycubic non-cardboard reusable spools

I recently bought a batch of Anycubic Silk PLA spools for the first time, which apparently come on reusable plastic spools. These are the non-cardboard spools with a diameter of 196mm just like the cardboard version. I found a lot of Anycubic spool adapters, but they all refer to the cardboard version, which differ slightly from the plastic version.

It is recommended to use spool adapters when using cardboard spools to avoid wear and clogging so I was wondering if these reusable 196mm plastic spools are compatible with the AMS 2, and if not, which spool adapter will fit and do you recommend?

The reason the spool adapters are used with cardboard spools is because they are occasionally chewed up and may snag causing lock ups and jams.

Plastic spools do not suffer the same issue as their design isn’t reliant of layers of paper to make up the cardboard where the edges can and will break up and come apart.

The plastic spool should be fine provided:

  • It grips both rollers without touching the AMS front and back or base
  • Freely spins when rotated
  • The plastic edges are round or flat and not sharp
