Contest Results

Hey Community,

I‘m the Designer of the Cockpit Phone Clip for your Household and your Car. In the Contest time makerworld give 2 of 711 Models a Feature.

Im very proud to Hit a Feature with my Model & earned a lot auf pts on the Plattform. But i cant understand why i dont reached 1 of 12 Awards in the Contest.

My Idea was a new thing… many Models Are Remix from older things or the maker are take her Inspiration from its - its absolutly okay, but think its not fair to Award them….

Just Wanna Share my through about my situation

It looks good, but not sure what’s ‘new’ its looks like a phone holder.

It is a bit odd that a model would be good enough to be featured but get beat out for the participation award by models that aren’t featured. It’s a bit like an MLB pitcher winning the MVP but not the Cy Young.

Only thing I can think of is that the people responsible for determining what gets featured aren’t the same people who judge the contests.

tbh, does not sound odd. Featured might only take quick look at submissions. Might be featured before all entries. Contests are all subjective to… there could be 100 things worthy of award… yet 12 have to be picked.

I think the “new thing” was lost in translation.

I read it as follows;

I created a new design, and many other contest entries were remixes, or simply a modification of an existing design solely to enter the contest.

I thought remixes weren’t allowed in contests

Only the upcoming OpenScad contest will allow remixes as an exception.

Yup, that’s what I thought

Just to clarify regarding the upcoming OpenSCAD contest allowing remixes…

I have a couple openSCAD scripts posted in Printables. To have it work with MW’s customizer, I have to modify it to some extent to make it compatible with the Customizer.

This action should qualify as a remix and hence would be allowed entry to the contest, right?

This is the exact post comment where they clarified and confirmed.

Thanks. It was not clear though if they’re allowing openSCAD scripts that were posted in the past.

In competitions, the number of downloads does not matter, but the subjective opinion of the evaluators. I remember that in the Valentine’s contest user Collecticraft had tens of thousands of downloads and did not win the contest with a single model. On the contrary, in the top 12 there were models that had less than a hundred downloads.

IMO that’s not a remix. It’s a different thing. It’s your own model. Either way you can enter it though.

Not a remix.

Changing how the variables are written and commented so the customiser works with captions and options isn’t a remix.

Changing the code to work with variables also isn’t a remix.

If I make a model based on another of my own models, I usually don’t declare that as remix, because it still completely is my original work.
If you take foreign code and adapt it, it’s a remix.
Even redesigning a foreign model from scratch may be be a remix, depending of how closely you stick to the design and how unique that original design is (if there are dozens of similar designs anyway then it’s sort of a common design, e.g. cylindrical screw containers, with some generic knurling or spiral decorative lines…)
