Crib-Man corner and ironing issues

This is an X1C. I had another thread in the Bambu Studio area, but figured I better put it over here, which seems more correct.

I’ve tried 6 times to print this Crib-Man board. Initial problems were warping away from plate at the corners, and then plate lifting. Now using the new SuperTack board, clamped down on the corners, and those issues are resolved, but the terrible looking back two corners still suck. The corners are no longer lifting and adhesion is very strong on the new plate.

On this attempt (photos), I turned on ironing on the black top layer (also gold in the title, which looks good). But the black ironing doesn’t look very uniform and the corners still suck. What now? More top layers? I just can’t figure out why the back two corners are the most impacted? It’s all Bambu PLA and the X1C top is open. 0.2mm layer thickness with 0.4mm nozzle.

I cannot be precise, but some possible causes:

*Infil % and the type and number of top layers. If in doubt, share your settings and preview. You may benefit from extra(s) top layers from the printer’s top surface look.

  • Purging and nozzle cleaning.
  • Filament not properly conditioned: dry and calibrate.

By the way, was the wrapping happening at the same corners?

Sparse infill 15%. Rectinlinear pattern
Wall loops 2
Montonic was the default top layer. I tried rectilinear on this one.
5 top shell layers
top shell thickness 1 mm
Speed (for black) outer wall and top 200 mm
inner wall 300 mm

The warping has always been those back two corners. Someone had suggested making the layers thinner, previously. When I did that, all 4 corners warped, even on the clamped Supertack plate, so I bailed on that idea. I increased the Supertack plate to 50 degrees C (45 is default) and that really holds it well.

The black PLA is new. Going through my second new roll on this stressful experience. 250 grams on each failed attempt.

AMS shows 10% humidity, as I keep tons of desiccant in there. Not sure how only corners would be impacted. Is there a chance of under extruding at the back corners, or over extruding? I don’t know what that looks like. I’m pretty new.

You mentioned that the PLA is new… did you dry it? I understand the AMS is filled with desiccant, which is excellent for keeping the filament dry, but if it is wet, you will likely find quality issues.

Did you calibrate the filament?

Not that I believe to be the cause, but at least change the infill to a better one, e.g., a gyroid.

How do you calibrate the filament? I have not done that.

I’ve never heard of new PLA needing dying, but I have tested it by weighing before and after in my filament dryer. No difference, so I don’t bother with PLA. Our house is very dry due to heating this time of year. Calibration sounds good. How? The printer does flow calibration before every print.

Are the corners still flat against the build plate once printed?

No bending or peeling up?

The corners look like the head is impacting a surface having detached from the build plate at the corners.

Given it has failed in the same back spot, have any of your tests included rotating the model 180º?

Correct. No detachment or bending up. I have not rotated it, but i can.

If your “Aux fan” on during the print by any chance?

I recall 2 fans being on. I can watch and see - or I suppose the log file might say? Should it be on?
