While trying to cut out some shapes on sticker paper today, I keep getting an error that says The cutting blade offset calibration failed…
I’ve used the cutting tool once before and it worked flawlessly with the same kind of print and cut project.
I have tried 6 or 7 times to no avail and have redone the mounting and offset calibration multiple times. The printer doesn’t fail the offset calibration when I manually select it through the menus just when it tries to calibrate before a cut job.
I do get a warning after the cutter makes the two x and y cuts near the alignment marker that asks me to check to see if the paper has been cut all the way through. I check and it has, but then I get the failed offset calibration error.
Once it starts the cut, it is off in both the x and y direction. Well the last one I did was only off in the y direction.
I’m at a loss at this point and have no idea what to try next.
Some have reported same kind of issue when printing on a glossy paper. Try on matte paper to see if it’s the case. I can also mean the nozzle camera is dirty, try to clean it and retry
I can confirm after countless attempts, and a lot of paper and ink wasted and straight to garbage, that the actual garbage is the cutting module, along with the software to use it.
Massively disappointed in fact.
Ive tried everything, even duping the marks with matt paper. No good.
Sorry if I sound too negative, but I regret the money spent on the module and the happy kid in me that was waiting for it, is massivly let down.|
Edit. Imma try to cover the toolhead camera leds with some electric tape and test again. Im suspecting the staight over light messes up the camera and cant see at all or at least properly the markers.
Okay I figured out the issue after a couple hours of messing around. The setting for paper size was set to A4 instead of letter. Ofc I was using letter size.
Had no idea that this would affect the alignment as the printout has the damn registration marks on it regardless of the paper size…
I would recommend putting some Amazon Basics matte tape over the four target points. Also make sure the tape is on the bottom-left target and in the area where the cutter makes the two cut marks, as the camera needs to see the cuts clearly. Make sure the edge of the tape isn’t in the same place as the cut line, as this can cause a visual error.
The problem is the glossy finish on the sticker paper — which I can see you’re using in this case — as it reflects the camera light and causes glare. Matte sticker paper doesn’t usually do this in my experience, but putting matte tape over the targets limits the reflections and lets the camera see them properly… well, at least 90% of the time — nothing’s perfect.
It’s the same issue people get with Cricut machines, and the matte tape trick is a common workaround there too. My wife does this on her Cricut Maker 4, so it’s not something unique to the Bambu system.

i’ve had a big offset problem (y axis) with my laser .and the support send me a new Bird eyes cam . after a first calibration it change nothing. but after a full reset of the printer everything is ok . no more gap between what i asked and what is done. Now i am able to perfecly cut around a previous cut
Sorry to necro this thread but I did a lot of reading about this just yesterday. In bambu suite, under preferences, you can turn on expert mode. When you do, under cutting you’ll now have a lot more control over the tool. In this case the reason it keeps complaining about making sure the blade is sharp is it truly expects to cut through the paper during it’s initial cut task calibration cuts. It makes these cuts through an independent setting called “Cut Through Pressure”. Regardless of how you have your actual cut setup, Bambu Studio looks at the Cut Through Pressure parameter for it’s calibration cuts. In the absence of that number (which is 0 by default on a custom material) it will use the cut pressure but not the number of passes.
From what I can tell, if it doesn’t cut deep enough it can’t see, or validate the lines and does exactly what it did to your cuts.
I leave for work tomorrow and can’t do any more experimenting for a week, but if you start adjusting that cut through pressure upwards I bet you’ll get it to work right. I know in my case I can cut just fine on normal paper with normal settings, but when I switch over to stickers I get that exact same issue… quite maddening tbh.
I’ll update here when I get back in a week and can continue meddling with the settings.
I managed to get this working by increasing the cut-through pressure from the default setting of 0, which is actually 288 gF, to 350 gF. Even then, it was not completely reliable. Sometimes the task failed during the initial calibration cuts, and I had to start it and cancel it before trying again. Other times, it worked on the first try. I suspect that increasing the pressure even further might make it more reliable on the first attempt.
Before that, I had not been able to get any sticker paper to align properly. I tried several third-party printable vinyl sticker papers and assumed the issue might be solved by switching to the official Bambu Lab sticker paper, but that did not help. I also ran through the calibration routines and printed the calibration pattern, selecting the option that cut just through the paper, but I still had no luck.
In my project, I selected the Bambu Lab sticker paper preset. With that preset, cuts were perfectly aligned when the objects were printed on plain printer paper. However, as soon as I used an actual sheet of Bambu Lab sticker paper, I got the “Cutting Offset Calibration Failed” error. If I tapped “Ignore and Continue,” the cuts around the objects were misaligned, which the error message did warn could happen.
At this point, it seems pretty clear that the problem lies with the two calibration cuts performed at the start of the task. It is disappointing that the stock settings for Bambu Lab sticker paper appear to be so far off.
I am experiencing the same issue on 3rd party vinyl sticker paper. The 350 gF cut-through setting did appear to get me passed the initial calibration. (Thank you to Thomatron and Tom78552) The misalignment did not resolve for me immediately however. Perhaps coincidental, but I ended up power cycling and recalibrating before the misalignment resolved.
I don’t have any data to back this, but I have a suspicion that after the two line cut through process fails, the machine loses reference - perhaps until the next recalibration. I’ve had my toolhead crash into the left limit as well. I’d expect the subsequent camera alignments to the sticker paper would resolve this, but I’m unsure how this is paired to toolhead calibrations. Would be great for someone from Bambu to investigate this issue further.
