Has anyone printed the D3P riser main body in ABS? I am wanting to print the main body in ABS for the higher temperature rating and then the rest of the parts in PLA but am concerned about tolerances due to ABS shrinkage. Just wondering if anybody has done this?
Would suggest printing in ABS Glass Fiber. I’ve printed full plate items without issue.
Interesting, I never thought of that. I printed two of the four main body sections in ABS without a problem but just thought of shrinkage as I planned on printing the other parts in PLA. I think I’m going to try to connect the two back pieces I have already printed and placed them on the printer to see if there is any shrinkage. If there is I’ll have to make a decision about either pet g or your suggestion of ABS GF.

I have not yet printed this riser, but regarding fittment it was always fine for me to use the shrinkage compensation in the filament settings in the Bambu studio.
You can simply print this one and measure it, how the calculation is done, is describe in the print description.
If you do this for ABS it should be fine, but you could as well do it for PLA.
So far I am printing everything but PLA with shrinkage compensation calibrated (ABS, ASA, PETG, PC and PPA).

Agree with Jon’s recommendation here, using glass fiber ABS. Checks all the boxes, great mechanical properties and prints accurately, likely no compensation mucking around.

Well, I assembled the 2 rear sections that I have printed and they appear to be off approximately 2 mm across the total width. I could probably get away with using them but I am enjoying learning about using different materials. In the future I will probably use ABS-GF but since I have ABS and just ordered 4 more rolls of it I am going to stick with it for this project. So, I am printing the shrinkage calibration model user_1083141284
Linked and will try to adjust the shrinkage factor in BS.

In case you are using Bambulab ABS, it worked very good for me with a compensation factor of 99.469%

Do you use the same shrinkage factor for every roll of Bambu ABS or do you recalibrate for each role? Also, I have a partial roll and a full roll in my AMS and have edited the shrinkage value in bamboo studio for the partial roll do you know if it will automatically use the same shrinkage value when it switches to the full roll?
I don’t use shrinkage factor unless parts have to interface with a PLA part or something with a very tight bolt pattern. Most often in my use case it’s ABS printed parts that interface with other ABS printed parts so the shrinkage factor is the same between them and is not needed.

In this case I am also concerned with the fit between the riser and the printer and the riser and the ams units.
I’ve found that most parts designed for 3d printing (on makerworld) normally have enough tolerance built into them that ABS shrinkage isn’t an issue. This is due to the inaccuracies of FDM in generally and differences from printer to printer.
It depends on the size of the Element. In case you have an ABS part with 30 cm length and a m3 screw that shall fit into one hole on each side, it will 100% niot match. Since with ABS you are off several millimetres with such big parts.
It is already an issue starting with 10 cm and above.
@Esquare : I did so far only calibrate the shrinkage once and printed multiple roles with the same factor. In case you are slightly off it is usually not a problem, but being 3-5 mm off, will be a problem.

I reprinted the first rear piece of the riser using the shrinkage factor of 99.444% and It came out great! Comparing the actual dimensions (measuring the smaller areas with a digital caliper) with the dimensions in BS results in basically spot on.
Well, looks like this project is on hold. In the middle of printing the 2nd main riser piece the printers rear lead screw nut stripped out for a 2nd time.
