Dedicate an H2S for laser use - 10W laser only?

I would consider purchasing an H2S for dedicated laser use, but I’m confused as to why the “S” variant is limited to the 10W laser. Can someone please elaborate on the reason?

Ideally, I would dedicate an H2S with 40W laser and fume extractor. I assume the 40W laser power can be turned down similarly to approximate the power of the 10W laser. Is that a valid assumption or are there delicate jobs requiring the 10W laser that the 40W laser can’t be dialed-down enough to accomplish?

May I ask why, if this machine is for “dedicated laser use” why you do not buy a standalone laser? It will be cheaper and better. The H2S is good but it’s a printer/laser combo not a laser.

First you’d be ripping yourself off. The H2S is a great printer. Purchasing one for laser is ignoring the main feature and primarily what the price of admission is for.

I have one and if I were to use a laser I’d simply buy a laser machine. There are good ones for far cheaper than what an H2S costs. On top of that you would also get an IR laser and a more powerful one if you wished.

I suspect, but I don’t know for sure, that the 40W head is significantly larger; that could be related.

But I definitely wouldn’t buy an H2S just to use the laser. There are better systems—standalone lasers—designed specifically for that application.

The laser function on the H2X is a nice add-on, but by no means the best solution.

First there is a big difference between 10 Watt laser and 40 Watt laser. Its the dot size. The higher the wattage, the larger the dot, which is important if you are doing fine detail. Second, the Laser add-on is not meant for full time production, the enclosure is just not made for it, you would be cleaning it daily.

Bambu looked to make an all-in-one Hobby machine that combines cricut, laser, and 3D printing. Main purpose is 3D printing, secondary are the add-ons. The H2S has a smaller power supply, which limits it to 10 Watt laser.

Ideally you will be far better off with a dedicated laser that is meant for full time laser work, has an enclosure designed to get dirty and not impede the electronics or other capabilities. You will be far ahead if you get an Xtool S1 which will have a larger bed, and its job is to laser cut. Skip the 20 Watt, go to 40 if you plan to cut thicker materials. You can get a 10Watt from Amazon for $748. OR you can go all out and get a 40 Watt with the rotary, something you can not do with the H2. This gives you the ability to laser engrave tumblers and things.

All h2 units share the same power supply according to the store.

When the S came out and people asked why only 10, they were all told because of the power supply. Reviewers were saying the same thing.

If all you want is a laser, this would be one of the more expensive ways to do it
